An interactive in-school performance about friendship and bullying for years 5 & 6, followed by a workshop with a class on the same day. Later, students from participating schools work together in a half-day gathering.

Make a Short Film! Filmmaking on the iPad using iMovie: look at story genres, develop a story, explore elements of pre-production, production, and post-production using story generation to story board, shooting, to editing.

Can be four workshops over four consecutive weeks (or condensed into three) or done in a one day session. Optional additional half day CPD session for teachers.

Picture Project. Digital Photography Basics - Composition, How to use the camera and/or How to use tablets/mobile devices and their editing tools. A combination of CPD and work in school with students

Royal Opera House – Inspiration Days

Pupils are invited to the Royal Opera House Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop to explore the fascinating backstage world of set and scenery. They will be taken for a tour before having the opportunity to take part in an exciting workshop led by one of our experienced craftspeople.

Introducing young people to performing as a creative vocal ensemble. A cross between singing and drama workshops, involving playing with the voice in space, telling stories through vocal music, speech and sound.

Overview!! VOICESCAPES!

This!project!is!about!introducing!young!people!to!performing!as!a!creative!vocal!ensemble.!A!cross!between!singing!and!drama!workshops,!VoiceScapes!are!about!playing!with!the!voice!in!space,!telling!stories!through!vocal!music,!speech!and!sound.!!!

Participants!explore!a!wide!range!of!voice!stimuli,!including!singing!from!different!cultures!and!music!styles!as!well!as!spoken!word!and!improvisation!games!through!sound.!They!are!then!guided!to!perform!these!in!response!to!a!particular!space,!moving!in!the!space,!playing!with!its!acoustics.!!

The!idea!is!to!promote!voice!experiences!that!can!stimulate!the!participants’!imagination!and!confidence,!whilst!exploring!innovative!artistic!ideas!in!voice!and!performance.!

The!project!is!inherently!flexible!and!can!directly!target!the!interests!of!the!participants!and!the!school!in!question.!For!instance,!it!could!be!tailored!to!a!particular!theme,!celebration!or!location,!as!!indicated!by!the!school.!

The!project!includes!live!performance!sharing,!both!formal!and!informal.!

this!project!can!be!adapted!for!different!age!groups!and!can!have!learning!outcomes!in!maths!looking!at!symmetry,!pattern!and!multiples.!!It!can!also!be!used!in!connection!with!different!historical!eras!such!as!the!Victorians.!!I!have!specialist!knowledge!of!the!!history!of!wallpaper!and!we!can!explore!ideas!such!as!recycling!!within!this!lesson!as!wallpapers!were!once!made!from!recycled!rope!and!linen.!!The!patterns!often!had!dots!as!part!of!the!design!because!flies!and!moths!were!attracted!to!the!wallpapers!and!left!deposits!on!them;!the!dots!disguised!the!insects'!waste.!!Small,!medium!and!large!balls!made!from!felt!–!KS1/sensory!Previously!used!in!conjunction!with!the!story!“Goldilocks!and!the!Three!Bears”,!children!use!merino!top!wool!and!soap!to!make!felted!balls.!!The!process!is!good!for!the!development!of!fine!motor!skills!and!we!can!talk!about!where!materials!come!from.!!The!balls!can!then!be!used!to!sort!small,!medium!and!large!or!from!smallest!to!largest.!!They!can!also!be!used!to!make!bears.!!Routes,!maps!and!directions.!Finding!the!way!and!knowing!how!to!describe!a!route.!!Using!maps!and!landmarks!as!source!material!we!can!explore!different!geographies!and!our!relationship!to!them!through!making!and!writing.!!Smartphones!have!changed!the!way!we!find!routes!and!often!we!rely!too!heavily!on!them.!!I!would!like!to!work!with!!teachers!and!schools!who!are!interested!in!working!on!mapping!projects!that!could!involve!map!making,!understanding!signs!and!symbols!and!knowing!your!way!around.!!Could!be!in!conjunction!!with!safety,!what!to!do!when!you!get!lost,!describing!where!you!live.!!It!could!also!have!connections!with!history,!geography!and!creative!writing.!

Overview!! Discover!the!fascinating!backstage!world!of!set!and!scenery!construction!at!!the!Royal!Opera!House!Bob!and!Tamar!Manoukian!Production!Workshop.!Led!by!an!experienced!tour!guide,!pupils!will!be!visit!the!scenic!paint!shop,!the!carpentry!workshop!and!build!area,!where!sets!are!erected!in!a!space!the!!same!size!as!the!Royal!Opera!House!stage,!to!see!first!hand!how!sets!and!scenery!are!constructed.!Pupils!will!also!observe!from!the!unique!viewing!galleries!that!our!craftspeople!use!to!look!at!their!creations!from!above.!!Pupils!will!learn!about!each!area!and!get!a!fascinating!insight!into!the!making!!of!world5class!sets!and!scenery.!!

Stratford!Discover!Centre:!Catching!Words!project!for!Year!5!(CPD!and!project)!READING!AND!WRITING!

Overview!! Catching!Words!KS2!–!Year!5’s!!Discover’s!Catching!Words!offers!a!whole!year!project,!with!an!intensive!start!over!the!first!two!terms.!This!approach!will!embed!!the!project!into!the!school’s!routine!and!encourage!active!buy5in!from!teachers!and!involve!them!in!the!delivery.!!All!relevant!class!teachers!and!literacy!co5ordinators!from!the!schools!would!be!invited!to!an!Inset!training!session!at!the!start!of!the!!project!at!the!beginning!of!the!Autumn!term,!led!by!three!artists!!and!the!Head!of!Learning!from!Discover.!!Professional!writers!and!poets!are!brought!in!to!share!their!own!skills,!strategies!and!work,!to!raise!children's!aspirations,!confidence!and!to!enrich!their!educational!experience.!!!The!Artists!and!Story!Builders!would!run!half!day!weekly!sessions!over!9!consecutive!!weeks!during!the!Autumn!or!Spring!Term.!They!would!work!intensively!in!weekly!sessions!focussing!on:!!Poetry:!Poets!like!Joseph!Coelho,!Adisa!the!Verbalizer!and!Joshua!Seigal!have!all!worked!on!Catching!Words!before!and!would!be!able!to!work!on!this!project.!The!emphasis!would!be!on!developing!vocabulary,!word!play!and!the!spoken!word.!!Storytelling:!Malika!Booker,!Tania!Batzoglou,!Paul!McVeigh!lead!sessions!on!story!development,!ideas,!and!creating!story!worlds.!!Writing:!Vicky!Martin,!Patrick!Ryan!and!Rosemary!Harris.!!These!sessions!cover!narrative,!dialogue!and!sustained!creative!writing!using!all!the!strategies!and!devices!that!the!children!have!learned!throughout!the!other!sessions.!!The!children!would!use!their!newly!acquired!skills!to!create!a!collaborative!story!with!illustrations!that!make!a!book,!copies!of!which!would!be!professionally!produced!for!each!child,!plus!a!copy!for!each!school!library.!!Teaching!and!curriculum!The!Artist!and!Story!Builder!will!work!closely!with!the!teacher!on!the!delivery!of!the!project!and!curriculum.!!They!will!meet!at!the!CPD!
