The Michael Sobell Hospice has been our chosen charity for the last year and through sales of the school magazine, the school mag team were proud to present representatives of the hospice with a £100 cheque. In turn, they answered questions about what the hospice does and how they look after people. Quality, a perfect value for a new school year! Science Day Year 5 & 6 enjoyed their ‘Mad Science’ afternoon. They worked with Nitro Nick who was thoroughly entertaining and engaging but made everyone think hard and involved the children in a number of science experiments, the clear favourite being the use of flash paper. Nitro Nick explained to everyone how flash paper was invented and how chemicals accidentally knocked on to note paper was later, hung on a clothes line near fire. I’m sure you can imagine how the story panned out! By making the science engaging and fun, the children gave the day a big thumbs up so I’m sure that’s not the last we’ve heard from Mad Science! Value of the month Our value of the month is Quality. The children have looked at what makes us feel that something can have a ‘quality’ label by considering food, school work, holidays and photographs. We agreed that how you start something is really important and will often determine how good the finished product is. Finally, the children really enjoyed looking at how poor quality items/work/attitudes can have a real impact in the future as I shared with them the worst magic trick and car I’ve ever bought! PARKINGI have once again received a number of letters and emails about inconsiderate parking or dangerous driving. The local police community support officer has also be contacted with similar complaints. It is not right or fair that the safety of children is being put at risk, our residents rights are curtailed or that the reputation of almost all parents and the school is tarnished by a few. If the situation continues, I will have no further option than to consult with police and governors about taking more serious action.

Stars ofthe week

This year, we have more clubs running than ever before! We are pleased to welcome Frazer Ewing to the school in the capacity of Sports Apprentice. As well as supporting PE across the school, Frazer will be running sports clubs at lunchtimes. Monday: KS2 Cricket, Tuesday: KS1 Cricket, Thursday: KS2 Hockey and Friday: KS1 Hockey.

We also have a new Tae Kwondo club on a Tuesday lunchtime in addition to all the regular clubs.

Mr Lawrence and Mrs Van Rhee have started a choir. I’ve always believed that the children at Pixies love music and singing and the children really enjoyed their first session. Also on the musical side, please don’t forget we now offer tuition on the trumpet and violin – see the office for further details. Together with our new music curriculum, we are committed to raising the profile of music and sport across the school.

Look out for details of a new Environmental Club starting in the next few weeks and the Astronomy Club which will start for Y5s after half-term.

School AdmissionsQuick reminder that the deadline for Secondary Admission applications is Friday 31st October. If you need any help with the application process or would like to discuss options then please speak with me or Mrs Axford.

New Chair of Governors

to everyone!Well done

Fraser Ewing | Cricket Club

At a recent Governor business meeting, Kaye Cartwright was voted in as the new Chair of Governors replacing Jean Garner. We will miss Jean’s input but remain thankful for the years of support she has given the school and recognise she fully deserves a well-earnedrest from a very demanding role.

Kaye is the perfect person to replace Jean and, now retired, was an Assistant Head of a secondary school. She has been on the main governing board for over a year and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position.

SnacksThere has been a bit of confusion surrounding break time snacks for children. To clarify, children may bring in a piece of fruit as a break time snack if they would like to do so. This includes dried fruit in a packet and can be yoghurt coated. However, no nuts or chocolate should be consumed at break. We are committed to the Healthy Schools national agenda.
