Eastern Greene Community, Our Thunderbirds have been busy this first month of school. We have already entered into our Fall sports season and many clubs and organizations have already begun their planning for the year. I want to commend all of our athletes and parents of the sportsmanship you’ve por- trayed so far this year. Parents you can continue to support your athletes by reminding them of the academic eligibility requirements. The full eligibility rules can be found on page 167 of the student handbook. I encourage all stu- dents to find an extra-curricular activity to enjoy and socialize. The end of the first 9 weeks will be on October 9th. In other news, new graduation requirements called graduation pathways are slowly being implemented throughout schools within Indiana. These pathways have additional requirements outside of the traditional classroom. In an effort to prepare for some of these additional requirements and to bring attention to great opportunities within our communities, Eastern Greene High School will be hosting a college fair tentatively in March. More information to come in the following months. Finally, I would like to address parents about the dangers of vaping. Although e-cigarettes, or “vapes” may be marketed as a safer way to smoke, they’re not. Vaping is simply a different way to put nicotine into the bloodstream. In fact, vaping can release 20X the nicotine per capsule. Even the nicotine-free vapes have evidence to support they are dangerous to users. Either way, it’s addictive and its illegal for anyone under 18 years old. Eastern Greene Community,

Our Thunderbirds have been busy this first month of school. We have already entered into our Fall sports season and many clubs and organizations have already begun their planning for the year. I want to commend all of our athletes and parents of the sportsmanship you’ve por-trayed so far this year. Parents you can continue to support your athletes by reminding them of the academic eligibility requirements. The full eligibility rules can be found on page 167 of the student handbook. I encourage all stu-dents to find an extra-curricular activity to enjoy and socialize.

Students can expect to be ticketed by our Resource Officer and consequenced with no less than 1 day at the Alternative to Suspension complex. Sadly, our students are not im-mune to the vaping epidemic. Please speak to your students about the dangers of vaping.

*Yearbook Guidelines for Senior Pictures (8/09/19)

(also used for senior composite (wall display) and Greene County Daily World All-

county senior supplement)

In order to maintain the quality of the senior section in the yearbook, the following guidelines will

continue to be used.

All seniors should have a picture taken by Inter-State Studio on August 15. First of all, the

office needs a copy. Secondly, this may be used for the yearbook if you have no other

photographer. As this picture may be the one you choose to use in the yearbook and the

senior composite (wall display), please dress appropriately. Senior pictures have histori-

cally been more formal in the area of wardrobe choice. School dress code applies! (No hats, neckline issues, spaghetti straps, etc.) Please keep in mind that you may

need to have pictures for scholarship or job applications, etc.

You may submit a picture from another photographer, BUT there are requirements. (Please

share with your photographer.)

The picture must be e-mailed (jpeg) to Mrs. Bartlett.

[email protected] (or bring in memory card/flash drive) We do

edit/crop pics. for sizing and lighting. The picture must be in color. WE MUST SEE YOUR EYES!

We usually have used a head and shoulder shot (for photographer—measurement

should be approx. 1 and 1/8 inch from top of head to bottom of chin). The pic.

should have a vertical format. Other views may be submitted for consideration. If

the picture is lacking in clarity or quality, we will use the best option. No writ-

ing on shirts.

No extras in pictures will be allowed—pets, cars, trucks, or other objects.

The picture is to have NO special effect such as halo or soft touch. Background

should be appropriate and not a distraction.

School dress code applies!

ABSOLUTE DEADLINE!!—THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12.

December 12 is the deadline for pictures from other photographers.

Again, please have your picture taken by the school photographer as a backup.

You are a part of this school’s history. We want you to be represented, so please

meet the deadline.

about your students grades and classes is Harmony.

Harmony can be accessed through our school

webpage. Go to the high school page and you will

need a login and password then you will have access

- Student grades

- Individual classroom assignments

- You can set up push notifications to be sent notifica-

tions from Harmony (alerting you of grade changes, attend-

ance, and discipline referrals)

your child is sick.

Important Info from the School Nurse:

Please contact Nurse Debbie at 825-5623 ext. 1008 if

your child has a health condition that we need to put a

health plan in place. Examples for this would be an al-

lergy that requires your child to have an epi pen or

some type of emergency care, history of seizures, se-

vere asthma or any chronic condition that may need

some type of intervention from the staff.

Procedures for Student Lunch/Meal Accounts:

School corporations must adopt a procedure regarding student lunch accounts. Every effort must

be made to collect delinquent debt. If the uncollectable debt is a student lunch account, it cannot

be an expense to the school food service account and must be covered by non-Federal funds.

Keep in mind the following prohibitions when developing a student lunch/meal account

procedure. Schools are not allowed to deny meals to any child for disciplinary reasons. Schools

cannot deny a meal to a reduced or paid child, if the child has money in hand for the day’s meal,

and schools cannot deny a meal to a student eligible for free meals even if money is owed.

Whatever procedure the school or food service establishes, the school must assure that the

procedure does not discriminate against or single out any group of students.

In addition, the Indiana State Board of Accounts requires student accounts to be accounted

separately from the School Lunch Fund (800). Student’s accounts should be in the Trust Fund

(8400), until the student actually receives a meal. The money can then be transferred into the

School Lunch Fund. The Trust Fund (8400) should be reconciled to the detail of student account

balances.

Procedure for Student Lunch/Meal Accounts:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) requires school food authorities to establish written

administrative guidelines and procedures for meal charges. Eastern Greene School Corporation

will adhere to the following meal charge procedure.

● All cafeteria purchases are to be prepaid before meal service begins by bringing lunch

money to school or electronically on myschoolbucks.com.

● Elementary and middle school- aged students may charge tray meals (one charge per

meal) as long as they establish and maintain a good credit history of making payments on

their food service accounts. They will receive a tray meal even if they have an unpaid

balance, but an accounting will be kept to bill the parents and/or pursue through legal

channels, if necessary.

● High school students may not charge any meals.

● The high school will provide an alternative meal to a student who pays reduced or full

price and who does not provide the required payment for that meal.

● A student who has charged a meal may not charge or purchase "a la carte" item(s),

including extra main entrees or other items.

● The Food Service Director will coordinate communications with the parent(s)/guardian(s)

to resolve the matter of unpaid charges.

● If food services staff suspects that a student may be abusing this policy, written notice

will be provided to the parent(s)/guardian(s) that if he/she continues to abuse this policy,

the privilege of charging meals will be refused.
