Traffic problems ore becoming more and more urgent every day, and engineers all over the world have long beenseeking o solution to them. With the Alweg monorail system they have succeeded in introducing an entirely new formof transportation that easily overcomes traffic problems previously considered insurmountable.

The first fullsized Alweg monorail, apart from the experimental track at Cologne, was put into operation with greatsuccess at the world-famous Disneyland in the USA. lt has already carried between 6 and 7 million passengers and isconsidered one of the leading attractions at Disneyland. As this monoroil has proved so successful others are being builtat Seattle {USA} ond Tokyo (Japan). In Turin (Holy) a monorail is already operating and other large cities have similarproiects in the planning stages.

SCHUCD has succeeded in producing the first operating scale model of the Disneyland-Alweg monorail with an indivi-dually reguloble two-train DC system. The track can be laid out [ust above the ground or at various levels with gradientsup to 30%. The track can cross over or under itself without the need of iunctions to handle cross-traffic, thus eliminatingthe danger of collisions. This allows the Alweg monorail to be operated in many new ways. A special attraction lies inthe fact that it can be combined in any way desired with all types of railway layouts and with the SCHUCO Voriontocar system. The individual pylons require only an oreo of less then ‘lath of o square inch and can therefore be set up inthe spoce between tracks, on hillsides, in valleys, or even on buildings with flat roofs. The Schuco Disneyland-Alwegmonorail can be installed in even the most complete railway layout. Hills, houses and volleys can easily be spannedand above all the monorail always blends in perfectly with its surroundings.

Electric points {switches}, signals, automatic controls, block sections, two~trocl< operation, train extensions, etc make forinteresting, versatile layouts.

Mr. Walt Disney, who had the courage and vision to have the first fullsized Alweg monorail built in his Disneyland, would like to congratulate you as the possessor of this fine model roilwoy and wishes you much enioyment and fun withthe Schuco Disneyland-Alweg monoroil.

Here is what Walt Disney himself soid about the unit: “Enthusiastic about your wonderful presentation of Disneylandmonoroil. Congratulations, wish you every success at Nuernberg Toyfair.”

How to assemble the Disneyland-Alweg Monorail

Joining the rails is quite simple, provided you follow the illustrationopposite. First plug a contact pin 6333/‘I9 into the upper socket of onerail and then push the two rails together so that the fixed contact pin oneach rail fits into the corresponding socket on the other. As the contactpin 6333/l9 is interchangeable, curved rails can be added in either direc-tion. If you wish to ioin the rails firmly together you can insert a railconnector 6333/l7 into the two holes provided in the underside. The railscan be bent slightly so that the track leads upwards or downwards orcurves made slightly wider or narrower. Do not bend the rails too much, however, or the conductors will spring out of the rails. lf this shouldhappen, you will have to push the conductor firmly back into place.

Joining the rails with terminal boards 6333/44 and 6333/45Current is supplied to the left and right conductors by means of terminalboard 6333/45 and to the middle conductor by means of terminal board6333/44. Both terminal boards are needed for every layout and should beplugged in independently at different places on the track. The terminalboards each have three round slots in which the contact pins fit. First pluga contact pin 6333/l9 into one of the rails and add a terminal board,so that two of the slots fit against the contact pins. Then push the tworails together. If you wish to ioin the rails and the terminal board firmlytogether use rail connector 6333/l8, which is bent to clear the terminalboard.

Joining the pylons: This is very simple. All you have to do is plug thepylons together until you have the desired height. If you use the pylonvee 6333/67 you can also build multiple pylons. To give the pylon a bettergrip use a rubber foot 6333/69. If you want to improve the appearance ofthe pylon, plug in a pylon tip 6333/70 at the top. You should supportevery second rail with a pylon when possible to give the whole structuresufficient stability.

Wiring: Use the circuit shown above as a guide. Note that the terminals on the transformer should always be wired to terminals of the same colouron the terminal board. When using a large layout it is advisable to use several identical hookups. lf you use only one train you need connectonly one transformer, i. e. connect the red transformer terminal to one of the red terminals on board 6333/45 and the black transformer terminal tothe black terminal on board 6333/44. The manual switch on the train must be in the proper position to work on the live rail (see illustration onpage ll). For two-train operation wire in both transformers as in the circuit shown above.

Examples of circuits for various transformers-I. Transformer with 14---17 wait adiustable DC for operation and DC for points and ACfor lighting. Here you can connect as many Schuco Disne_yiand-Alweg faint; as youwant direct to the DC connections for points; use distributor unit 63 3163 for t is.A control unit 633314) is required for each point. No more than 2 points can be operatedsimuttaneously.2. Transformers with i4---17 volt adiustable DC for operation and AC for lighting (andalso points, if rectifier 6333147 is inserted in the circuit). You will %enerally needa transformer for each train. it you want to operate two trains and be a le to regulatetheir speeds individually you will need a transformer for each train. When you useSchuco Disneyland-Aiweg paints wire them to the. AC connections on rectifier 6333147.You may connect as many points as you wish to the rectifier; for this you will finddistributor unit 6333/43 useful. One control unit 6333141 is needed for every point. No more than 2 paints can be operated simuttaneausly. Be careful not to exceed thetransformer output of .5 A for lighting and points. Each tight requires about 50 mA,each point about 220 mA3. Transformer with 14--17 volt adiustable AC for operation and AC for lighting. Whenusing this transformer you will have to insert o rectifier 6333147 in each at theoperating and lighting circuits. You can connect as many paints as you wantto the rectifier in the iighting circuit; use distributor unit 6333/43 for this. For eachpoint You will need a control unit 6333/41. No more than 2 paints. can be operatedsimultaneausty.Always wire distributor unit 6333/43 direct to the rectifier or the DC connectionsfor lighting.

Maintenance: Always make sure that the r_ails are_ clean; rub them from time to time with a dry clean rag. Be especiallycareful to keep the conductors clean, as dirt can interrupt the current and stop the train.

Remark!ls a layout not mounted on a stable board, as it should perhaps be disassembled again forreasons of space, it es recommended to place the layout on a corresponding sheet of wrappingpaper, under which the wirings can be made invisibly. .

The black and red lines signify that thecurrent in the wire changes the poles accordingto the position of the point. The wiring diagramsare always drafted schematicly. In reality, thewires are not connected where they aremarked by points, but lead directly to therelative binders of the accessories or thetransformer.20
