Concordia Place is a vibrant nonprofit with proactive solutions to key social needs. Our focus is growth and opportunity through economically inclusive early childhood, teen leadership and senior wellness programs. Last year we served over 750 young children, teens and seniors.

Because we serve everyone in the community, the result is a rich, multi-faceted diversity of families from varied economic levels, ethnicities, and faith traditions. About 70% of those we serve are low income.

Opening our doors for the Senior Wellness program isn’t enough. We send volunteers to seniors in our community to help with everyday tasks. Last year they provided 559 services.

We offer full-day summer camp for 6 to 12 year olds that is fun and educational. Our summer camp supports low-income working families who could not otherwise afford to visit some of Chicago’s greatest landmarks. We tie our recreational activities to Illinois Learning Standards. Last year 75 children participated.

Our accredited early childhood education programs impact children. Children who participate in economically integrated programming have been shown to create meaningful development gains. Last year we served 354 children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.

SPECIAL thanks to our donors

Financing early childhood education promotes economic growth. The estimated return on investment (ROI) is $7 for every $1 invested.

$1=ROI

33%of our funding is from public sources. Yet, 70% of those we serve received financial assistance. With your support, we can continue to provide programs to those who need it most.

Special thank you to Laurel Petty for her design donation for this

Over the last several years, Concordia Place has experienced a shift in program demand which contributed to a net operating loss for FY14. One factor was the longer CPS school day in 2012, which negatively impacted our after school enrollment. We closed the program in August 2013, and the space was not used while we converted it to serve children ages 24-36 months. These new programs were licensed in January 2014, and we are working to bring them to full capacity.

Concordia Place fosters a sense of community by offering six intergenerational events each year.

These events attract over 50 volunteers who gave over 422 hours of their time.

We strengthen the community by fostering individual growth and opportunity for all: children receive quality care on a sliding tuition scale; teens realize their full potential by developing leadership skills; adults become more engaged in our society through English as a Second Language classes; and seniors stay connected, active and independent.

42%

The number of unemployed youth was 3.4 million as of July 2014 (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Teen uemployment rate in Illinois is among the highest in the United States. 76 paid internships are provided to at-risk teens by our Emerging Leaders Sprouting Out Initiative on a year-round basis.

Our sliding tuition scale effectively lowers the percent of income families spend on child care services from 42% to 14%, thus promoting economic mobility for low-income households.

Our Friendly Visitor Program is more than just a transportation service. We provide the human connection to those who need it most.

“ I have recently been using your volunteer driver services to take me to the hospital for my chemotherapy treatments as I am a stage 4 cancer patient. I really appreciate this service and want to thank you.”
