TRIP SUMMARYFrom Dallas this trip takes you down directly into

the Texas Hill Country, through Meridian, Hamil-

ton, Marble Falls, Llano and Fredericksburg.

After Fredericksburg and Kerrville, the ride is

straight on into the Three Sisters ( also called

the Twisted Sisters or 100 mile loop ). This ride

is not for beginning riders and represents some

of the most extreme riding in the Texas Hill

Country. Riders area taken on many tight and

decreasing radius corners alongside steep hills

and sharp drop-offs, but the reward is an area

that is scenic and great to ride. After the Three

Sisters, this ride map brings you back into Dall-

las via another great riding road - Highway 16.

• Leg One starts off leaving Dallas and

heads to Kerrville and the Texas Hill

Country via 67, 281, and 16.

• Leg Two travels thru the Texas Hill Coun-

try and into Austin.

• Leg Three takes you back to Dallas vis

TX-16.

Dallas is a gateway to the west made

popular in TV shows, movies and other media.

Around the world, Dallas and Texas are synony-

mous. Even though this is the start of the trip

and many people wish to get to riding, don’t

forget about the many sights to see while in

Dallas from the somber site of the Kennedy

assassination to the site of the hit TV show -

there are just too many to list here. Don’t forget

about Dallas’ world class dining, shopping and

nightlife.

Also, don’t forget about Fort Worth which is

just a short drive away. Visit Sundance square,

which is a vibrant and lively city center or take in

the once daily cattle run through the city

streets at the Stockyards. There are many

sights to see in Fort Worth.

Suggested hotel and lodging:Our shop is convenient to both DFW Inter-

national Airport and Love Field. The sug-

gested locations below our arranged from

more expensive to least and all are fairly

close to Sport Ryder Rentals Carrollton

location.

Gaylord Resort

The Gaylord is a lovely resort just north of

the DFW airport and a short drive from our

location. It is a destination in and of itself...

KERRVILLEKerrville is located in the heart of the Texas

Hill Country and the first stop on your tour. Lo-

cated in the middle of the Quadalupe River val-

ley, the Quadalupe River flows through the mid-

dle of town and offers a great place to take a

break from your riding. If the weather is warm,

as it often is in south Texas, try tubing down the

river to take the edge off of a hot Texas day.

There are three potential ways to split this

ride. Stopping earlier in Fredericksburg is always

an option so we included a list of lodging loca-

tions for there. You could also forge on through

to Leakey and stay a the D’Rose, but we sug-

gest Kerrville so that riders can start the chal-

lenging section of TX-16 fresh in the morning.

Take care on your trip...While all of this trip is through areas that are well travelled, care must be taken while planning any long ride on a motorcycle. Check the weather carefully before you go and each day for that day’s ride. Bring appropriate clothing. Some

of the ride is through sparsely populated areas. Watch your water, gasoline, and cell phone charge - but don’t rely on your phone. Some areas have no service.Pack a tire repair kit. Tire punctures are the most likely mechanical fail-ure to happen on the road, a

a good kit with CO2 car-tridges can be worth its weight in gold ( all of our rentals come with tire re-pair kits ). Also take care that you do not bite off more that you can chew - ex-pect to average about 50 miles per hour after stops and rests have been figured into your day...

LEAVING KERRVILLETake TX-16 south out of Kerrville. After

approximately 23 miles, 16 will veer to the

east and you will find Ranch Road 337

going to the west. Take RR-337 west

where you will pass thru Vanderpool on the

way to Leakey.

THREE SISTERSWe will describe the clockwise loop. From

Leakey take RR-336 north. RR-336 will hit

41 - take 41 west for 13 miles until you see

RR-335 heading south. Follow RR-335 until

Camp Wood. After Camp Wood, take RR-

337 back toward Leakey.

CAREFUL NOW!This section of roadway is remote and chal-

lenging. Many of the corners hold surprises

such as decreasing radiuses and changing

cambers. Be careful and do not ride be-

yond your abilities.

LEAKEY, TEXASLeakey, the Real County seat since 1913, is

an area of natural beauty with spectacular hill

country views.  Sometimes referred to as "The

Swiss Alps of Texas", area elevations range from

1,500 to 2,400 feet with deep canyons cut by

the Frio and Nueces Rivers.  The Frio River of-

fers anything from whitewater rapids to flats to

swimming holes and great fishing.

John Leakey came to Texas in 1847, and

he was considered one of the first white settlers

in Frio Canyon in 1853.  The town of Leakey,

Texas was established in 1883 and was named

in his honor.  He was a successful business

man, Indian fighter, and Pioneer.  Several mark-

ers are located on the courthouse grounds to

commemorate the history of Leakey and its-

founders, John and Nance Leakey.

The area offers fishing, boating, bird and

wild life watching, camping, horseback riding,

cycling, swimming, tubing down the Frio River

as well as great

motorcycling

roads. Once

MAKE A SIDE TRIP:AUSTINAustin's also a city that doesn’t take itself

too seriously. After all, you can’t have a motto

like "Keep Austin Weird" and be buttoned-up.

It's laid-back, full of energy and, yes, a little

weird.

Austin is like no place else in Texas. Sure,

you’ll find the occasional honky-tonk and plenty

of barbecue. But you’ll also find a thriving art

community, filmmakers and nearly 200 live mu-

sic venues and world-renowned festivals. Aus-

tin's also a city that doesn’t take itself too seri-

ously. After all, you can’t have a motto like

"Keep Austin Weird" and be buttoned-up. It's

laid-back, full of energy and, yes, a little weird.

Austin was selected as the No. 2 Best Big

City in "Best Places to Live" the "Greenest City

in America" The main campus of the University

of Texas is located in Austin. The city is home to

enough large sites of major technology corpora-

tions to have earned it the nickname "Silicon

Hills." Austin's official slogan promotes the city

as "The Live Music Capital of the World," a ref-

erence to its status as home to many musicians

and music venues.[1][2] In recent years, many

Austinites have also adopted the unofficial slo-

gan "Keep Austin Weird"; this refers partly to the

eclectic and progressive lifestyle of

many Austin residents but is

a l s o

the slogan for a campaign to preserve smaller

local businesses and resist excessive

commercialization.[18]

Austin has many natural

springs that are used for swimming in the

summer...

HAMILTON POOL

Bring your bathing suit! Hamilton Pool was formed when a limestone dome was caused to collapse by offshoot of the Per-danales River. The result is a waterfall falling off a limestone overhang into a 100 yard round pool. The swimming is great!

LEAKEY TO LLANOTake Ranch Road 337 east from Leakey.

Past Vanderpool start looking for TX-16 and

take 16 north toward Kerrville. Continue on

TX-16 though Fredericksburg and then to

Llano. In addition to the Three Sisters, this is

a great road on this ride map.

LLANO BACK TO DAL-LASThis is a simple route. Just stay on TX-16

until you past I-20, Possum Kingdom Lake,

until you intersect US-380 at Bryson. Take

US-380 east until Denton and I-35. Make

sure you take I-35e south and back to SRR.

BACK TO SRR: TAKE TWOOur main route avoids going through Dallas.

For shorter route, turn on to 67/377 at Co-

manche. Take 67/377 east and stay on 67

until you hit I-35E. Here take I-35E north

until you enter Carrollton and return to SRR.

BACK TO DALLASImagine looking back on this kind of trip and remembering all of the good times and memories you made...

You’re finished and back in Dallas! So how was your trip? You just travelled

over 800 miles through some of the best riding

roads in Texas. Your ride took you through the

Texas Hill Country. Some of your driving was

straight, highway driving, but we have taken

great pains to make sure that most of the ride

was on back roads and non-interstate travel.

So what did you see???The Texas Hill Country has some great

riding roads and scenery, and although you

sampled just a small bit of it, you really got a

great taste of the best the Hill Country has to

offer. But wait, there;s more - Big Bend is just a

short day ride away with even more scenic vis-

tas and great riding roads. Maybe next time?

Isn’t a motorcycle a great way to travel?

Seriously, everyone talks about the “wind in

your hair,” but, really, isn’t a motorcycle a great

way to do this trip? An recreational vehicle

would be very hard to maneuver through the

many mountain roads. And a rental car - well it’s

just not the same - you don’t get the smell of the

air, the feel of the temperature changes. The car

really takes you out of the experience - rather

We here at Sport Ryder Rentals were re-cently asked the question, "Why should I rent a motorcycle when I can own one?" For some people the answer will be obvi-ous, but it's a good question and shows that motorcycle rental is not for everyone ( but what product is? ). If you are a rider that rides every day, then motorcycle rental is not for you - but, there are distinctive groups of people that make good if not great rental customers. These reasons that each group have for rental are listed below - some of these reasons will be obvious. Some, maybe not so much...

Reason #1: You want to try out a bike before you buy. This is a very common theme for customers that come to us. Mo-torcycle dealers do not let you try before you buy, and if they do, it is only for a short ride around the parking lot - and what can you really learn from that??? With motor-cycle rental at Sport Ryder Rentals, you can rent for a day or longer and really get a feel for the motorcycle and how you and it interact. Do you fit with the motorcycle? Are there certain ergonomic problems that you have when you ride some distance on the motorcycle. Do these go away over time? Do you like the engine, the suspen-sion, the fit and finish, etc. All these ques-tions can be answered with sportbike rental and sport-touring rental at Sport Ryder Rentals.

Reason #2: YOU may ride every day and not need a motorcycle rental, but don't you

ever have friends that come in from out of town to visit and need some-thing to ride while they are here??? Now you have a choice - before Sport Ryder Rentals, the only mo-torcycle rentals was cruisers. Not that there is anything wrong with that type of motorcycle or riding style, but sometimes it doesn't fit with what you and your other friends are riding. We have a rental motorcycle that fits almost all "styles" of riding.

Reason #3: You don't live here and you are flying in and want a bike while you are on vacation in Texas. Maybe you want to ride the Hill Country, use Dallas as a gateway to the west, or travel down to Big Bend - the second largest National Park in the United States. Check out our ride map section for more travel ideas. Or maybe you are here for work and are just sick of that company car - we definitely have the solution for you!

Reason #4: You don't ride that much - maybe 4 or 5 trips a year. Or maybe you would take a few trips a year, but haven't wanted to invest in a motorcycle and have it sit in your garage doing little but depreci-ating and needing to be maintained. You are the perfect rental candidate! It's actu-ally cheaper for you to rent 4-5 times a year and have us pay for the depreciation and maintenance - and you get a new mo-torcycle model to ride every year.

WHY RENT?

Reason #5: Your wife doesn't let you own

a motorcycle!!! DON"T LAUGH! Actually, we have a certain group of customers that fit into this category. Owning a motorcycle would cause unnecessary friction in the marriage. Motorcycle rental is a way that they can keep the peace and get some of the enjoyment of riding. We say - "Anyway you can get your fix - take it!"

And finally, you know, for many guys, there is the option of borrowing a bike from a friend - and that is always an option. But be careful and realize that you are not in-sured on your friends bike - at all. If you don't have much to lose, then not having insurance is not really a big deal - you can't be sued for what you do not have. But for those of you that have some assets - like a house, retirement money, etc., lack of insurance while riding is a BIG risk. We are fully insured and full coverage liability ( with a very large umbrella policy ) is in-cluded in our base rental rates.
