THREE POINT PERSPECTIVE

TWO POINT VS. THREE POINT

Looking straight towards the Horizon Looking from above (or below)

WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THE THREE POINT

PERSPECTIVE?

Allows the ability to construct form from any

viewpoint (above or below)

Gives the ability to create more dynamic drawings

Most commonly used for buildings

Has three vanishing points (VPs)

(Two along the horizon ,he two point perspective,

and one somewhere above or below where you

want to draw your object)

All lines recede towards one of the 3 VPs

Vanishing points are the points on the horizon line where the angular

perspective lines of an object continue past the edges and converge.

A) Draw a horizon line close to the top

(want the viewer to be looking

down) or bottom (want the viewer

looking up) of the page.

B) Then draw two VPs as close to the

edge of your page as possible.

C) Then as far away from the horizon

as possible, place a third VP. It can

go anywhere between the horizon

and VPs.

D) Draw connecting lines to the 3 VPs.

HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE THREE POINT SHAPE

STEP 1

A) Draw a line anywhere within the

triangle towards VP3, at any

length (can end before reaching

VP3)

B) Keep object inside the triangle

HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE THREE POINT SHAPE

STEP 2

A) Draw lines from both ends of this

line towards VP1 & VP2 along the

Horizon Line.

HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE THREE POINT SHAPE

STEP 3

A) Determine where your shape will

end in the space of the triangle.

B) Draw lines from the VP3 through

both sets of lines toward the two

horizon VPs

STEP 4

A) Draw lines from the back corners

towards the opposite horizon VP

and you will have completed a

simple shape.

B) Erase and construct lines as

needed.

STEP 5

NOW WHAT?

From there you can explore

making more complicated

shapes.

Make sure all lines recede

towards one of the three VPs.
