Mirroring Rebelline=s early career, Recharge shed hismaiden status in his first attempt at Killarney last Au-gust before suffering defeat behind subsequent G1 2000 Guineas winner Sea the Stars (Ire) (CapeCross {Ire}) when fourth on his stakes debut in theSept. 28 G2 Beresford S. at The Curragh. Rebellineincurred her stakes defeat in the Listed Eyrefield S. atLeopardstown. Both dam and son returned in theirsophomore year to claim victory in a LeopardstownGuineas trial and, in Recharge=s case, it was theMar. 29 G3 Leopardstown 2000 Guineas Trial last time.AObviously, I=m hoping he can win and he has as good achance as any,@ commented Prendergast. AHe hasbeaten the winner of the [G1] Dewhurst S. [IntenseFocus] and he was only just chinned in the Beresford S.last year. The winner of that went on and won theGuineas, but I=m just hoping the ground stays dry. He isa smart horse and, in time, I=d say a mile and a half willbe no problem for him. We=ll get the Guineas out of theway first, but he won well at Leopardstown and is ingood shape.@

GHANAATI ON CORONATION TRAIL Connections of the G1 1000 Guineas winnerGhanaati (Giant=s Causeway) were yesterday lookingahead to the June 19 G1 Coronation S. after ruling outa tilt at the June 5 G1 Epsom Oaks. With the 1 1/2-mileClassic now off the agenda, the Shadwell homebredwill be heading to Royal Ascot for the one-mile contest.AI saw her last night and she looks fabulous--good inher skin and coat,@ Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid AlMaktoum=s Racing Manager Angus Gold commented.AThey haven=t done anything in particular with her;she=s just been cantering every day and she=s put backall her weight. Barry [Hills] and the team are very happywith her, so we=ll just hopefully progress her towardsRoyal Ascot. I think Sheikh Hamdan felt he wouldrather stay at a mile for the moment than step straightup to a mile and a half. I have no doubt in my mind--and I know Barry doesn=t--that she will definitely get amile and a quarter and maybe further, but she had theclass and speed to win a Guineas, so we thought we=dtry a mile one more time in the summer fillies= champi-onship and see what happens afterwards.@

CONDUIT BACK AT SANDOWN Conduit (Ire)(Dalakhani {Ire}) is due to make his comeback in nextFriday=s G3 Brigadier Gerard S. at Sandown, trainer Sir

Michael Stoute announced yes-terday. Last year=s GI Breeders=Cup Turf and G1 St Leger win-ner is set to carry a seven-poundpenalty in the extended 10-fur-long contest. AWe have eightdays to go, but all being wellConduit will run in the BrigadierGerard S.,@ Stoute told the Rac-ing Post. Owned and bred byBallymacoll Stud, Conduit wasrunner-up in the G2 King EdwardVII S. at Royal Ascot last Junebefore taking the G3 Gordon S.at Goodwood July 29. His three-

length score at Doncaster last September was a preludeto his smashing victory in the Breeders= Cup, whichpropelled the chestnut to an Eclipse Award as the lead-ing turf horse in the U.S. in 2008.

ASK HEADS TO CUP Patrick Fahey=s Ask (GB)(Sadler=s Wells) was yesterday reported on course forEpsom=s G1 Coronation Cup following his success inFriday=s G2 Yorkshire Cup. One of 18 remaining entriesin the ,225,000 June 5 contest after the latest forfeitstage, the impressive six-length winner of York=s 14-furlong contest will attempt to provide trainer SirMichael Stoute a fifth renewal. AThe Coronation Cup isdefinitely the plan for Ask,@ Fahey=s Racing ManagerSimon Christian commented. AHe has come out of hisvictory at York in great form, and it was nice to win aGroup 2 race with him. I think the ground suited himbetter than some of his rivals at York, but he doesn=t goon extremes like the fast ground he encountered twicelast summer at Ascot. He certainly coped with thegood-to-soft going last week. It was nice to start himoff with an easy race. The owner and the trainer take itone step at a time, and we are concentrating on Epsombefore eying any targets later in the season.@

I have nothingbut respect for Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d=Oro), ifshe comes, and Mine That Bird (Birdstone), but Charita-ble Man is doing great. He=s bred to go a mile and ahalf, he=s two-for-two on the track, and he=s a freshhorse.@ Charitable Man=s other success at Big Sandycame in the GII Futurity S. last September. In otherBelmont news, WinStar Farm=s Mr. Hot Stuff (Tiznow),considered a possible starter in the race, breezed a half-mile in a steady :49.80 over the Keeneland Polytrackyesterday morning.

Alwaary, winner over a mile at Yarmouth in Septem-ber, was last seen finishing a non-threatening fourth inthe G3 Lingfield Derby Trial 11 days ago. Benefittingfrom that outing, the Shadwell homebred cruised intocontention after the final turn and was in completecontrol after hitting the front with a furlong remaining.AThis horse showed a fair bit last year and we werethinking of running him in the Dewhurst, but he justhurt himself, so [trainer] John [Gosden] and his staffleft him alone,@ Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid AlMaktoum=s Racing Manager Angus Gold commented.AJohn said he wasn=t thriving physically or mentally inthe spring, and he had turned around after he ran himthe other day. That race woke him up and brought himon, and he=s obviously got a bit of buzz in him. I=m surehe will go farther, and we=ll speak to Sheikh Hamdanand see if he wants to go for the [June 6] G1 EpsomDerby, but, personally, I think he may be a horse to goto Royal Ascot for the [June 19] G2 King Edward VII S.and take it step by step. The kinder we are to him now,the more he will repay later, hopefully.@ Video, courtesyRacing UK. Click for Racing Post chart.
