Guidelines for Participation Registration Registration is taken via telephone, email, postal mail, or in person at the Brambleton Center. Mail-in and email registrations will be processed the morning of registration in the order in which they were received, and may be submitted prior to the registration date. Registration can occur up to 2 weeks before the first day of a program.

Transportation Participants are asked to provide their own transportation, as County provided transportation is available on a very limited basis. Space will be available until filled. Transportation will be limited on specific programs to participants who live in group homes without transportation available, or who live independently. It is TRS policy to only wait five (5) minutes for a participant after their scheduled pickup time. After that, the van will continue on the route. If a participant is a “no show” without prior notification three (3) times within a semester, the participant will be dropped from transportation for the remainder of that semester. When meeting at pick-up points, if a participant’s transportation is more than five (5) minutes late for pick up/drop off time, three (3) times within a semester, the participant will be dropped from transportation for the remainder of that semester. If a participant is removed from transportation, they will receive a refund for those fees. Based upon registrations, activities may be moved to an alternate location to help facilitate transportation needs. Transportation Routes cannot be changed three days before a program. It is best to have a set pick-up point at time of registration.High Demand Classes & Wait Lists Sometimes programs may fill before the registration session concludes. TRS considers these “High Demand” classes. “High Demand” classes are marked with a next to the title. If a class fills, the participant will automatically be placed on a wait list. Participants will be contacted if placed on the wait list and a space becomes available. Refunds & Credits In the event that TRS cancels a class, participants will automatically receive a full credit to their account. Credits will be carried on the account and can be used toward future courses and activities. If a participant would like a refund, notify TRS and a refund will be processed within three weeks if the amount is over $25. Credit amounts under $25 will remain on accounts for future use. If a participant must withdraw from a course, they must be withdrawn before the class begins. A participant will receive a refund if another TRS participant can fill your spot. Credits for trips or special events (such as theatre productions where tickets are purchased in advance) cannot be given after tickets are purchased unless your place can be filled. Guidelines for InclusionFor participation in general recreation classes, with assistance from TRS staff, a participant must:• Meet registration requirements of the selected class, ie. age, residency, prerequisites.• Be able to adhere to the rules of conduct.• Be able to follow simple directions and be able to communicate your basic needs.• Have the ability to tolerate and function in appropriate class sizes based on type of program.• Be able to participate in the selected activity for the majority of the scheduled time.

All accommodation requests must be made at least two weeks prior to the start of the program. Transportation is not provided for Inclusion Services.

Registration ReminderWhen registering for Super Suppers and Movie Club, you may register for all sessions listed, but will only be registered for the first available and put on the wait list for the remaining. If TRS is able to get participants off the wait list, you will receive a phone call at least one (1) week before the program. Participants are not charged the registration fee when put on the wait list. Many TRS programs have wait lists, if a participant is not able to attend a program, please let the TRS staff know as soon as possible, so that another person can attend.

Hello TRS Families, Starting in the Winter 2014 semester, TRS limited transportation to participants who live in group homes without transportation available or who live independently, for specific TRS programs. These programs will have the word “Limited” written next to the transportation fee. As our routes have continued to grow over the years, so have our costs, and time that participants spend on the vans. Our goal has always been to ensure that participants are not on the van for longer than 1 ½ hours. We have seen an increase in the number of participants who have been on the vans longer than that time. Moving forward, we ask that if you can provide transportation for your participant, that you do so. We are also looking for families and care providers who would be willing to car pool and pick-up/drop-off other participants. TRS pick-up points are: Goodwill Vinton: 907 Hardy Rd, Vinton 24179, Goodwill Salem Lakeside: 1489 E Main St, Salem 24153, and the Brambleton Center: 3738 Brambleton Ave, Roanoke 24018. If you are able to meet TRS vans at pick-up points, it will cut down on transportation costs and time. In addition to this change, TRS will not change routes three (3) days before a program. If a participant needs to be picked up at a different location, the change must be made at least three (3) days before the program occurs. It is best to let TRS staff know pick-up points at the time of registration. Just a reminder: If a participant is a ‘no call, no show’ for transportation three (3) times in a semester, they will be removed from transportation for the remainder of the semester. If a participant’s ride is late for drop-off or pick-up three (3) times in a semester (more than five (5) minutes), they will be removed from transportation for the remainder of the semester. We appreciate your cooperation as we continue striving to provide the best service for adults with disabilities throughout the Roanoke Valley.

Transportation Policy Reminder

Payment Policy

Beginning in the Fall 2014 semester, participants will not be able to register for programs if they have an outstanding balance of over $200. Participants need to pay for a program before it occurs. If a program meets for multiple weeks payment must be made before the last meeting of the program.
