...a festival of textiles

We are so pleased to be welcoming you to the second thread, our festival of textiles. Showcasing a rich mix of artisan fabrics, sewing kits and haberdashery items, and a marketplace offering the ingredients for all manner of sewing projects. So whether you’re a seasoned stitcher, or just starting out, you will find all the tools to get started, as well as inspired ideas from the most exciting practitioners working today.

Those eager to get making will relish the chance to pick up a signed copy of the latest book from What Delilah Did, Storyland Cross Stitch. Festival-goers keen to delve deeper into the world of textiles will have the opportunity to hear expert talks offering insider knowledge, including author Tilly of Tilly and the Buttons on writing her latest user-friendly guide to sewing your own clothes for the new wave of DIY dressmakers, Love at First Stitch. Also, dressmaking tutor Sandra Rowles on understanding a commercial pattern, and curator and artist Matt Smith will talk about Unravelled, the arts organisation he co-leads, and his own practice. You will also find a broad selection of workshops, some are free to drop-in, others need to be paid for, please ask at our friendly Box Office for all of the details.

The cloakroom is based in the East Wing behind the Great Hall stage where you can leave your coats and bags to make your thread experience more comfortable.

As always we would like to thank everyone who has contributed towards thread including our supporters Liberty, Selvedge Magazine, Elphicks, Love Sewing Magazine and all the volunteers, groups, guilds, staff and individuals who have given their time. A special thank you to the rest of the craft team Amy Collins and Kate Shuttleworth for their hard work towards the Maltings festivals.

Keep up to date with all things thread at craft.farnhammaltings.com and on facebook and twitter at www.facebook.com/farnhammaltings and @maltingsfairs.

It wasn’t intentional, but the work needed to be made, and sewing was the only logical language to use. This illustrated talk will explore how and why stitch is sometimes the only option, and also show examples of textile by other artists commissioned during the Unravelling the Vyne, National Trust Project.Tindle Studio, 2pm - 3pm, free
