THOUGHTS

In childhood we reach for the moon

One grasp and youth has gone too soon

In middle years we reach our prime

Hoping to savour our best time

When like a candle flickering bright

All too soon out goes the light

The Light

Light the lamp the sailor said and when I'm out at sea

I shall see the glimmer and know it's meant for me

My heart will warm with memories we have made tonight

And you will be there with me amidst that shining light

The rains slash to wear me down the seas my face will sting

But somewhere in that glimmer I will see my everything

Waiting for me on the shore arms outstretched and free

To comfort this lonely sailor when he comes home for tea

The days are tough with fishing the nights lonely black

But thoughts of you are with me keeping me on track

I hear your voice in the wind it sings a soothing song

Telling me that all is well and this won't be for long

I pull my nets up from the sea and head for calmer land

Knowing you will be there eager to take my hand

And all it took to help me to sustain this awful fight

Was my constant faith in you and the glimmer from your light

THE MASTER OF LIGHT

Now J.M.W. Turner, As all experts agree,

Was the greatest English painter That we will ever see….

But they miss the point completely,

Or so it seems to me, When they discuss his paintings of

Petworth, Westgate-on-Sea, “Frosty Morning”, “The Shipwreck” and

“The Fighting Téméraire”, His oils and watercolours from

Rome, Venice and elsewhere….

These experts proclaim his genius In rendering in paint,

The buildings, ships and countryside As the workings of a saint….

But what Turner was excited by,

What so galvanised his sight, Was to attempt to reproduce The sublime effect of light…..

It was light which fascinated him,

It was light that made his day, It was light that drove him onward – Light was where his genius lay…..

Page 8: THOUGHTS All too soon out goes the light

It was sunlight on great buildings

That set his heart on fire, And sunsets with great banks of clouds

Of which he’d never tire; It was candlelight on faces

Which made them shine and glow, It was twilight on great mountains

That made his brushstrokes flow….

He painted fireworks in Venice As they lit the campanile,

And as flames consumed the House of Lords Leaving just a smoking pile…

And it was the light of battle,

The light from blazing wrecks, Inspired his studies of great ships

As fire engulfed their decks; Huge waves on high seas breaking Shining white light from their spume,

As great ships foundered in them And were dragged down to their doom….

An eerie light on misty days

On the cold, damp coast of Kent Inspired his greatest canvases,

His final accomplishment…..

Go and see the works of Turner, They are sure to you excite;

I think, then, you’ll agree with me, He was The Master of Light !!

awakening

under cover of darkness

light slips in

unannounced

waits quietly whilst

subtly softening shadows

with whispers of cerise,

cobalt, crimson

soars through the sky

on angel wings

to wake the sun

scattering a zillion prisms

in a sequin shower

bouncing back to

dapple our sleeping

selves, streaming over

fields, foliage

reflecting patterns

opening our eyes

to light, to life

Night Queen

she works her way in

stealthily, mysteriously

sidles into corners

hovers over staircases

settles into spaces

you'd never noticed

covers them in

black velvet

smoulders throughout

her allotted hours

relinquishes them sulkily

atom by atom

resisting

keeping her secrets

until light forces

his way through

Timeless Tango

Light and shade are out dancing, prancing on the wind which sends clouds advancing towards the east. The Sun's light is bright but sends shadow behind people, trees boats and the water looks inky where clouds intervene. Glorious sight! Mix of light and dark across the landscape and sea as they covort in a timeless tango of mood, seasons, chasing and teasing in all the hours before night. Hail the Moon! And the stars his court give adoration to his softer beam

Keep The Load Light

Hey, friend I've noticed the worry in your face Come on tell me over a cup of tea Loaded with stress and fear is not a good place Let me help you keep your load light Life isn't plain sailing for many of us The kickings start to weigh us down Artfully hidden until depression comes round Let me help you keep the load light Hey buddy don't be putting your face in a mask Tell me, cut that burden in half If I share your ups, let me share the downs I ask- Let me help you keep the load light Hey friend, I know how it is when your smile is numb Don't ever let it go out of control I'm here to walk the extra mile if I need Let me help keep your burden light

The Light in your eyes.

Aha!

I see

AWAKE.....

The light in your eyes goes on in my head into my brain

Sshhhhhhhhhhh!

(Shed a light on the truth)

How the might of that light can give me a fright as it crosses my starry sky

With shards of awareness cascading throughout

That morph though my system to start a new life

Showering spectrums of chaos and chattering thoughts

asking why?

To journey to planets unknown?

Incredible, and Terrible.

I'll try.....

No, I WILL

Open a door,

Shed a light on my truth

My Cousin My cousin swallowed a torch last night. She used to be dim but now she's quite bright. From Smilers: humorous verse

Shining Shoes Here's a tale that might amuse, I have a pair of shining shoes. So when I go for walks at night they show my way with their bright light. The owl above hoots with surprise, night time drivers shield their eyes and if I point my toes up high the moon and stars pale in the sky. These shoes of mine are very nice but they have come at quite a price. I'll tell you what the matter is - each day they need new batteries.

Of Clay Floors and Angels

Thinking.

Pondering a feeling.

A torment

of darkness with fear

that I’m having

in my heart that I can’t explain.

The night is long.

I have arrived

with angels

in a place of windows,

opaque walls and an ochre floor

in a hall of sound.

My heart is still a tremble

but of transformation

until the old fear returns

heart beat and mind beat

and some windows have gone.

Take me out of this hell!

They are at the door,

tantalizing,

but not opening

not speaking.

There is no place for you in a place of light.

I am dead.

My heart died of loneliness.

I rise and rise,

enter a hall of light

and am drawn to the light.

And find myself singing

the plaintive notes

with the angels

who, looking down,

peer into the empty halls of men.

I know what they feel,

the angels,

for my soul’s heart

thumps again,

but not for my own darkness:

this time, not for my own fear.

But with this fear

there is a new light

and I have resounding peace

in a mauve light

and in a new hall.

And the stars of heaven sing.

Light

Light was escaping to the farthest reaches of a field known only as the sky,

The watchers knew if light disappeared,

Sleep was sure to follow and only then time could fly.

Once again the planets very slowly passed each other and on tipping their hats,

Meteor skies met up with sunset eyes and so began the creation of The Gardens of Light,

A million dew drops sparkled like diamonds as they started to dance,

The evening settled with the night,

The moon caught its breath,

The Zodiac’s beauty shone a spectrum,

Culminating in a crescendo,

Cascading the land in something of a visually,

Fine romance.

~

The children looked to the sky,

And the stars they all looked back,

A trace of pure bright white light ignited and flew,

Father Christmas and his reindeer?

The children I know would be looking out for that.

Darkness called to the universe,

"Realise"

"The magic of the night"

Its gateways are,

Enchanted boulevards,

Inviting,

An amazing spectacular display,

Enter,

The Gardens of Light.

You shall find,

A luminous pearlescent River running,

Bourne,

To find the Sea,

Its pockets are filled with bridges,

A burst they shimmer with light,

When you cross those bridges,

The magic is the night.

Look for,

A New Moon Balloon rising,

Above the dazzling canopy’s of the trees,

Whispering with intimate light,

Making beautiful nights,

Come to life as magical,

And as romantic as these.

TORCHLIGHT

Visual orb, reaching out as the night takes flight. while the shadows plays tricks in its triviality. wrestling with intensity, an explosion of colour bursting, as a stream of magic creates a rainbow of illusions, untouchable visibility, stretched fingers of radiance, the night gives way as it intrudes on its dark curtain. lighting up a path as it reaches obscurity. A spectrum of colour in awe of transparency, bouncing back while lighting up any obstruction in its path, changing its space with patterns giving a light show, until the glow merges and dies on its final destination, and the black velvet of the night curtain closes on a dying glow.

CANDLELIGHT

Time took me into darkness, The glow spreading its fingers into the unknown, becoming many as the illumination from candlelight glowed. Crossing the barrier, giving a light show of shadows dancing, lighting the way as the night retreats, blinded by defeat. Travelling through space of transcending colours of reflection. enthralling as the softness touches those in its path of show. giving a softness to its surrounding of warmth in the nights cold. Even the hardest lines of sharpness hide in the afterglow. A haunting melody spreading beauty on a hundred sighs, with its magic and mystery giving a taste of fantasies in shapes. Within each breeze that flutters are dancing images of enhancement, inside a glass jar. Orbs of stars explode into the atmosphere like fairies of seduction, memorising into a magical world without explanation of ethereal beauty. The dark and the light bide their time of freedom in waves of illusions. In tune blending into a world of play with silhouettes coming to life. from a little spark. Continue to fly and stretch yourself and swallow the night, bewitch the stars and moon as you attract your bright light, as others in the past have done before to see in the dark. Be swallowed into the magic that has no bearing on time, as you hypnotically melt all the stresses of the day in the void. till you flicker once more then die.
