The Dailies
• Project 25 for Kaldor public art projects was 'The Dailies' exhibited at the commercial travellers association centre, Sydney, Australia,
• 23 March - 22 April 2012
The Dailies
• In this public art project, Thomas Demand created an installation which made very effective use of this unusual circular building in the heart of Sydney.
• The building was built in the 1970's by Bauhaus influenced architect, Harry Seidler for the commercial traveller's association.
The Dailies
• For this exhibition Demand took over a floor of the building which comprises of 16 bedrooms arranged in a circle around a central corridor. In each bedroom Demand hung one of his series of photographs which he calls 'The Dailies' over the bed. This is a series of work he has created over a number of years. He takes photographs, little snapshots of daily life with whatever camera he has to hand. Demand has compared these photographs to haiku, as they are like a beginning, the seed of a narrative.

• These original photographs he then recreated in his trademarked style with paper and photographed these reproductions. The photographs of the reproductions are then hung over the beds in the rooms of the centre.
• In each room he also changed tiny little details of the room and other details have been included, for instance the writer Louis Begley wrote a short story for the installation entitled 'Gregor in Sydney' extracts of which are included in menu cards placed in the rooms. Also, Miuccia Prada created a scent for the rooms which was used throughout.

• The building is located in the heart of Sydney but because it is well insulated, the bustle of the city streets does not reach the rooms, they are cut off from the noise.
• The arrangement of the bedrooms around a circular corridor, each one almost exactly like the last except for the picture over the bed and the tiny details of the room, gives a disorienting affect.
