Counselor Appointments• After the first two days of schools, counselors are
available to meet with students.
• Students can make appointments by emailing their counselor, or by attending Office Hours.
• Student Services will appear on the Schoology Page, students will access Counselor Office Hours there.
• Students can see their counselor to discuss their courses, academic difficulties, personal/social issues, and for post‐secondary planning.

During virtual instruction, the rotation is as follows: Mondays –
Morning: Select students scheduled for synchronous instruction based on need. Asynchronous work assigned by teachers.
Afternoon: Asynchronous work Tuesdays and Thursdays – Red Days Wednesday and Friday – Blue days

Rolling Gradebook
• A rolling gradebook is a cumulative document
• A student’s final grade is determined by a combination of all assignments & assessments throughout the year, regardless of the quarter the work was completed, and is not an average of quarter marks.
• The grade posted at the end of each traditional quarter is a snapshot of a student’s current progress in the course.
Your teachers will tell you which gradebook setup they will be using this school year.
Technology Assistance for Parents

• Parent Technology Help Desk – 1‐833‐921‐3277 (833‐921‐FCPS). – It will be answered by staff 7 a.m.to 11 p.m., seven days a week.
– If you need help in a language other than English, let them know and an interpreter will join the line.

• Edison is a pilot school for a new learning management system, Schoology.
• Replaces FCPS 24‐7.• Students will be able to see their courses and advisory listed.
• Courses viewable 9/2.
Logging in to Schoology1. Log in to Schoology at lms.fcps.edu.2. Enter your username and password.
a. Your username is the email address that you use to login to your SIS ParentVUE account.
3. Click Sign in.
Top Menu: Courses
1. Click Courses in the top menu to view a list of your child’s courses.
2. Click on a course title to enter the course as a viewer.
NOTE: While logged in to your parent/guardian account, you will only be able to view the course content. You will not be able to interact with assignments and tasks.

1. Click Groups in the top menu to view a list of your child’s groups. These groups might include school clubs, sports teams, or after school activities.
2. Click on a group name to view the content.

View Your Account ActivityYou’ll know you’re in your account if you see your own name in the top right corner.
Updates from the school, courses, and groups you participate in appear in your Recent Activity area.

View Student CoursesTo see a list of your child’s courses:
1. Click on the Enrollments link. This is in the same area as the Student Activity feed.
2. Then click on an individual course. You will be able to see assignments, tests, and discussions from that course.

Submitted, Overdue, and Upcoming Assignments
1. The Recent Grades/Attendance area lists graded assignments which were completed in Schoology. Click on a category to see all the assignments under that category. Click on an item within a category to see student directions provided by the teacher, as well as your child’s submitted work.
2. The Overdue section displays a list of course assignments your child did not turn in by the due date.
3. The Upcoming section displays a list of your child’s upcoming assignments and events.

Advisory & Eagle Time
All students will be assigned to an Advisory, which they will remain in for all 4 years.
Advisory will run for approximately 40 minutes, and students will have 40 minutes of Eagle Time to see any of their teachers for remediation, to make up work, or get assistance.
For students who are doing well in their classes there will be, on occasion, optional workshops and activities for them to participate in, or they can use the time to work on homework.

Edison PTSA
• PSTA's mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
• It is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America.
• Today's PTA is comprised of 5 million parents, teachers, grandparents, caregivers, foster parents and other caring adults who share a commitment to improving the education, health, and safety of all children.

Parent Outreach and Communication
• Parents will receive a weekly progress report containing all the grades as they stand in the teacher’s gradebook.
• Progress reports will begin the week of September 21.
• In your SIS parent account (ParentVUE), there is a tab titled My Account. Within this tab you can choose which day of the week you receive the email as well as set a threshold if you prefer to receive the email only if your student’s grade drops below a certain percentage.
