    Dear Calvary Family,

I am so thankful for what the Lord did through you in 2012. This

report gives you a glimpse at some of the stories of life-change that

happened as a result of your faithfulness in ministry as we continued

to fulll our purpose as a community where we CONNECT with Godand others to GROW in our faith so we REACH Orange County andthe world for Jesus Christ.

The nancial records reect an amazing heart of generosity andcommitment to the calling of Christ at Calvary Church. With this

blessing of Gods provision to fuel our ministry, I am very excitedabout kicking o 2013 with our church-wide emphasis on evangelism.I cannot tell you how blessed I was to stand at the end of the rstservice in 2013 and pray over so many of you who came forward, bowed on your knees, and prayed with a fervent spirit to make Christ

    known to others.

I have received many encouraging stories of how you are now sharing

Christ at work, school, in our neighborhoods and with friends who

need Jesus. In Mahew 6:20-21 Jesus said, But store up for yourselvestreasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where

thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there yourheart will be also. You are investing in that spiritual treasure.

Our pastoral sta prayerfully cast vision for all our ministry areas last

year with a special emphasis on evangelism. While we pursue thesestrategic ministry plans in the year ahead, we are reminded thatwhile we make plans, only the Lord causes lives to be transformed. I

want to thank each of you in our church family for your faithful andprayerful support of our leaders, as we serve the Lord in our church,

in our community and around the world.

    [ Connections ] [ LifeGroups ]

In a large church like Calvary it is all too easy to slip in and out of theservice and never experience church in the way that God designedit to function as a family! We are made to know and be known,to be present with others, to love one another and to help bear oneanothers burdens. This can only happen as we engage in the life ofour church family as we walk through life side-by-side. This is whereLifeGroups come in.

We have LifeGroups of all ages and varieties at Calvary. There are 20dierent LifeGroups to choose from that meet on Sunday mornings,

and 30 dierent LifeGroups that are meeting in homes and aroundOrange County throughout the week.

We have groups for women, men, young adults, Spanish speakers, singles, parents, and married couples. There are almost 80 LifeGroupstotal for adults. With an additional 70 LifeGroups for our Childrensand Students Ministries, this means almost 150 total LifeGroups.

Thanks to the hard work and care from each of our LifeGroup leaders,we have approximately 1,500 people who are connected in a LifeGroupat Calvary.

In 2012 we celebrated the launch of several new LifeGroups, includinga LifeGroup geared for people in their 30s, and a new LifeGroup thatmeets in North Orange County.

As we look ahead to 2013, we look forward to continue deepening therelationships in all of our current LifeGroups, as well as to continuestarting new groups to help everyone at Calvary be connected into aLifeGroup community where they can connect with God and others, grow in their faith, and reach out to their community together.

If youd like to learn more about LifeGroups, visit Connection PointCentral on Sundays or browse for a LifeGroup and get connected atcalvarylife.org/lifegroups

2012 saw continued growth as new people came to Calvary and gotconnected into the life of our church. 80 people took a next step to getconnected and went on one of the 20-Minute Tours to learn more aboutthe church. Several of these people continued on to join LifeGroups andeven become new members at Calvary.

We saw 146 people join Calvary as new members in 2012 by completingthe Core LifeLab on How to Connect. It is exciting to see peoplediscover Calvary and join us as we seek to Connect, Grow, and Reachtogether. Come learn what church membership is all about at one of

We also got to celebrate as 94 people decided to publicly declare theirfaith in Jesus through baptism in 2012. One of the last words from Jesuswas for each believer to be baptized as an outward expression of theirfaith in Him as a symbolic act of entering the new life He oers. In 2012, women of Calvary learned to sit with the Lord, surrender to Hiswill and submit their lives to Him. They connected with God and othersthrough our retreat, LifeGroups, Bible studies, discipleship program andmentoring relationships. Whether in times of solitude or community, women experienced the Holy Spirit actively working to transform theirlives into the image of Christ. As a result of the connections they made

and the growth that occurred, women of Calvary reached out

providing safe homes to at-risk children in need of short-term care sending care packages to millitary personnel around the world providing clothing and gi cards to help young women rescued from

sexual slavery/human tracking start a new life. praying for specic needs of incarcerated women on a weekly basis sending gis to children around the world through Operation

Christmas Child organizing a backpack drive and planning a childrens walk to support the

ongoing ministries of Acres of Love and Discover to Recover Centre tochildren orphaned by AIDS

sending Christmas gis and resources to Calvary missionaries delivering Christmas gis and singing carols to adults with special needs giing Angel Tree gis and hosting a Christmas party for children with

incarcerated parents providing hygiene kits to inner-city youth who complete a care course

As we look forward to the coming year, our prayer is that women wouldencourage one another in love, identify the unique gis given to themby God, be equipped to use their gis to build up the body of Christ, experience the Holy Spirits active work in their lives, and share theirlife-transforming stories while giving God the glory for the great thingsHe has done.

Alpha is a 12-week course where people can learn, talk and ask questionsabout life, faith and Jesus. Each night includes dinner, a video teachingsegment and discussion in small groups. 2012 was our second year ofrunning the Alpha Course at Calvary. We had 100 people aend and 5came to a rst-time belief in Jesus, but it aected everyone deeply.

For one couple, Jose and Mayra, Alpha was an important turning point.Aer aending Calvary on Sundays for a couple months, they still hadquestions about how to live out the Christian life. They decided to aendAlpha to learn more. They found not only answers, but also a greatcommunity to support them in their faith. Their second son, Benjamin, wasborn during the 12-week course, and they decided to have their newborn,as well as their 3-year-old Alexander, dedicated at Calvary in May. Then, later that summer, both Jose and Mayra were baptized at Calvarys BeachBaptisms. Their table group from Alpha has since become a LifeGroupthat continues to meet and journey through life together.

My daughter, Madi, and I, feel incredibly blessed to have an outlet toshare our passion for singing and drama with others in our church family. The bonds that have formed have created a home for us at Calvarywhere we feel that we belong and it has provided opportunities for usto share our love for God with others in a language that we speak best:singing and acting. The time that we spend together working on worshipsongs and creative arts has drawn us closer as a family and given usmemories that we will carry with us forever.

    2012/13THIS YEAR AT CALVARY15Calvary Church of Santa Ana | www.calvarylife.org 16

We are excited for 2013 and all of the places we will go and things wewill do. The high school group will continue to help students connectwith God and grow in their faith so that they can reach people in theireveryday life. We are looking forward to this April when we get to spendtime in LA ministering to the hurt and lost people in our local city.

This last year is full of great memories for the high school group. Godblessed us with the opportunity to create lasting memories, makelifelong decisions, reach people in our everyday lives, and have so muchfun doing it. We even got to have a color war on a Wednesday night!

2012 was a fantastic year for Foundation College ministry. We are seeingnew faces on a consistent basis as students are bringing friends. Manystudents who have never felt a part of a strong community are ndingsecurity in the body of Christ for the rst time. Our college studentshave exhibited a real hunger for depth in their relationship with Jesus.

We anticipate 2013 to be a great year. We have many LifeGroupopportunities available with over 60 students involved on a weekly basis. As always, our students are already geing excited about our annualhouseboat trip to Lake Shasta!

[ Galaxy | Jr High ]This past summer our theme was Chutzpah which derives from aJewish word, meaning spunk, boldness, and passion. We asked severalJr. High volunteer leaders to share their stories of standing up for Godand doing what is right. It was so powerful to have our Jr. High students

challenged by these genuine college students.

This year at Hume Lake we prayed that a group of core 8th grade boyswould be broken and have a change of heart. God was faithful to answerour prayers and allowed friendship to become more real and honestthrough the power of His Holy Spirit!

We are really excited about Calvarys all-church focus on evangelismfor January and February 2013. Not only will this bring unity to ourministries and the body of Christ, but also allow our students to facetheir fears and fuel their passions for evangelism. Our series is calledEvange-Phobia and we are condent it will impact our students.

In Student Ministries, we have many outstanding programs and activities, but our true heart is for young people to encounter God. We care mostabout connecting with students, building lasting relationships, andleading them to Jesus Christ!

    [ Calvary Christian Preschool ]

God has blessed us so much and in so many ways! Our 2012/2013 schoolyear is full to capacity and our waiting list is overowing. We are fullystaed with a team that is well-qualied, above California State standards, and their walk with Christ shines throughout their daily assignments withchildren and their families.

Our rst ever Dinner and Concert starring our preschoolers was a bigsuccess. We nearly lled a surburban with pizzas and Samsvick Chapelwith all our families. Last May, we hosted a free family event at SantaAna Zoo, where we had just under 500 in aendance. This April, we

are hosting a free concert starring Jana Alayra. Calvary Town ChildrensMinistries and Calvary Christian Schools lower elementary will be joiningus for this great night of music.

Every week Mrs. Lee teaches a Good News Club and one of the rst tomemorize Psalm 23 was one of our 4-year-olds. To our surprise, she wasable to recite it word perfect. Check out the video from last March onour facebook page at facebook.com/calvarychristianpreschool

We are looking forward to expanding our preschool by two classroomsin the near future and are very excited to see what God has for us in thenext few years as we grow.

    [ Calvary Christian School (K-8) ]

Calvary Christian School continues to pursue the mission of raising upyoung men and women to positively impact the world for Christ. Thisrequires the education of both mind and heart. As measured by ourAnnual Parent Survey, academic excellence and teaching quality havesignicantly increased this year while our Christian mission continues tobe the strength of our school.

As part of our 5-year Strategic Plan, we have accomplished severallandmarks tasks including the purchase of 25 new computers for theTechnology Lab, mounting projectors with video & audio capabilities in17 classrooms, and providing Spanish for 7th and 8th grade. In order tocultivate academic excellence, CCS pursued professional developmentfor all teachers in the areas of dierentiated instruction and utilizingpersonal strengths for instruction. Additionally, our K-8 adopted a newmath curriculum as well as training to implement the Common CoreStandards for Mathematics.

Our moo at CCS is Sharpening Minds & Transforming Hearts. Aperfect picture of this is seen in one of our 8th grade students whoturned a family vacation into a mission trip. John-Paul rallied supportfrom the entire CCS student body to raise enough gloves and bats forthree teams on his familys trip to Nicaragua. Upon meeting with each ofthe teams to disperse the equipment, John-Paul used the opportunity toshare the message of salvation to each of the teams. John-Pauls heart touse a vacation for the purpose of loving others and sharing Gods Wordis a result of a wonderful partnership between family, church and school

where we seek to raise up students who impact the world for Christ.

A few exciting happenings in the upcoming year include implementing aschool-wide Community Service Program, establishing a Department ofAdmission to expand enrollment, as well as the adoption of a new Biblecurriculum. We look forward to the great things God is doing at CCS.

[ Restoration Project ]The Restoration Project, which began at the end of2010, is enabling us to develop facilities that supportour ministry plan. We revised our overall goal forthe project this year to $4.4 million over 4 years toallow us to complete these phases: critical roof and

AC repairs, new Nursery and Ministry Oces in theWorship Center, renovation of Samsvick Chapel anda space for Student Ministries.

We will complete the Worship Center phase in early2013 and pursue renovation of the Chapel throughthe summer. Then, based on the Finish the Journeycommitments, we could plan and get permits forthe new Student Underground in the C-Building.We appreciate your generosity and are grateful forall of the subcontractors from Calvary that saved usthousands of dollars on the project along with all thehelp from our Building Commiee.

We have put on hold original Restoration project plans to convert suites inthe Heritage Medical Building to ministry spaces. We will continue to leasespace in the building, although we hope to ll vacancies with potentialfuture Reach partners. The rental income, which osets the loan paymentsand operational expenses, gave us a net prot last scal year of $18,461.

    David Mitchell | Senior Pastor

As we move through 2013, please continue to pray for thecompletion of the Restoration Project in the Worship Center and

other parts of our campus. We hope to open the new nursery in

early 2013, so each of you can tour this beautiful new home for our

babies. Also, we will be able to unite many of our sta in the newupper oor oces, which greatly enhances our ability to work moreeciently pursuing the ministry plans at Calvary. We will also turn

the old oces in the D Building into more ground oor preschool

classroom space, which is currently lacking.

Pray that we will also be able to fully restore Samsvick Chapel in

2013. The chapel is a wonderful facility, but as many of you who

use it know, it is cold with no heat, the seats are literally fallingapart and we desperately need to upgrade the sound and lighting

for this sacred space at the heart of our campus. Many of you arealso highly desirous of a new home for Student Ministries. Keep

praying that we will have the full nancial support to move forwardby converting the old nursery in the lower level of the C-Building

into a new Student Underground and enable us to disciple and

reach out to more students in our church and community

Thank you for your continued partnership in ministry. You areinstrumental in fullling the calling the Lord has for us at Calvary. It

is a joy to serve with you.
