TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parishioners,
Today is Social Justice Sunday. The Australian Catholic Bishops’ Social Justice Statement for 2017-2018 is titled “Everyone’s Business: Developing an inclusive and sustainable economy”. The Bishops call for an economy that is founded on justice and offers dignity and inclusion to every person.
The Statement calls us to build an economy founded on true solidarity with those who are most vulnerable. Such a society will reject an ‘ideology of the market’ that forgets the principles of justice and equity. Justice must be built into the very foundations of our community, and business can work for everybody’s benefit, not just for shareholders. The excluded and vulnerable must have a voice in decision-making. God is calling us to use his bounty wisely, for the good of all and of our planet. The statement is on the table at the back of the Church and can be found at: www.acsjc.org.au.
Fr Dom will be on retreat this week and with Fr Ladu on holidays, I will be looking after the Parish with the Parish staff. Because I am working in the Cathedral for three days a week, Fr Ray will be helping with some of the weekday Masses. Our wonderful Parish staff will look after any requests.
Our new Parish Pastoral Council members met with the older members on Thursday night. The new members of the pastoral Council are Margaret Fields, Lynn Smith, Peter Hoole, Nick Abbate, Kate Smith, Frank Ford, Katie O'Kane, Recelia Tubelleza, and Cathy Johnstone. Those who have served on the council for a few years are David Grace, Peter Briggs, Linda DeRuyter, Louis Lamuri, Protais Muhirwa, Greg Hales, and Ross Frassetto. I thank all these parishioners for generously volunteering their time being members of the Parish Pastoral Council.
The grassed parking area at the back of the Church will probably be closed this week. We hope to lay some cement driveways to be able to begin the re-establishment of the grass in the back carpark. The cement will need to dry and the plan is that the carpark will be open next Sunday. God bless, Fr Dan

It is a mandatory requirement of the Archdiocese for all Volunteers in our Parishes to attend a safeguarding seminar
3rd
October 2017 either 9.30am or 6.30pm
As part of the “Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults” policy in the archdiocese, the Archbishop has asked that all members of the clergy, religious, staff and volunteers in the Archdiocese undertake a seminar to look at the updated policy along with expectations and procedures for compliance and monitoring of best practices in our Parishes.
The Archbishop has asked that everyone involved in all ministries within care and concern – Communion to private homes and nursing homes, visitations, transport, Senior Mass helpers, as well as all other ministries: sacristans, youth leaders, children’s liturgy of the word, Pastoral Council, Finance Council, Eucharistic Ministries of Communion, Ministries of the Word, Cleaners, Counters, Hospitality, RCIA leaders and those involved with altar servers, attend.
The next seminar is on Tuesday, 3rd
October in the Avocado Room, Paloma, Sunnybank, one at 9.30am and then again at 6.30pm. This in-service is for 3 hours for those who have never been to one previously and a 2 hour refresher for those who did attend a seminar in either 2014 and 2015.
Tea/Coffee and morning tea/supper will be provided. Please call the Parish Office on 3345 3766 to let us know what time slot you are attending.
VOCATION VIEW: We can never be called "generous". All that we possess we have received from God. It is our vocation to return to God all the talents God has entrusted to us.
Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Year A
Introduction: Often we fall into the trap of thinking and acting in small and petty ways. God’s ways are anything but small and petty. God’s mercy and forgiveness are anything but confined and limited. In this celebration of the liturgy, let us open ourselves to the breadth and the length, the height and depth of God’s mercy and love.
First Reading: Isaiah 55: 6-9 This reading, from the third major section of the Prophet Isaiah, reminds us that God’s ways are radically different from our ways.
Second Reading: Philippians 1: 20-27 Among the very many memorable sayings in the Paul’s letters, today’s second reading contains a memorable saying of Paul which could be his motto: Life to me, of course, is Christ.
Gospel: Matthew 20: 1-16 In many ways, this parable, a story of a generous employer, is an explanation and illustration of Jesus’ earlier teaching in Matthew’s Gospel (cf 19: 30) about the last being first and the first being last. It is also a reminder of the unfathomable depths of God’s mercy.
‘THE JOY OF LOVE’ FROM POPE FRANCIS Looking to Jesus: The Vocation of the Family
Jesus restores and fulfils God’s Plan
63. “Jesus who reconciled all things in himself, restored marriage and the family to their original form (cf. Mt 10:1-12). Marriage and the family have been redeemed by Christ (cf. Eph 5:21-32) and restored in the image of the Holy Trinity, the mystery from which all true love flows. The spousal covenant, originating in creation and revealed in the history of salvation, takes on its full meaning in Christ and his Church. Through his Church, Christ bestows on marriage and the family the grace necessary to bear witness to the love of God and to live the life of communion. The Gospel of the family spans the history of the world, from the creation of man and woman in the image and likeness of God (cf. Gen 1:26-27), to the fulfilment of the mystery of the covenant in Christ at the end of time with the marriage of the Lamb (cf. Apoc 19:9)”.
64. “The example of Jesus is a paradigm for the Church… He began his public ministry with the miracle at the wedding feast of Cana (cf. Jn 2:1-11). He shared in everyday moments of friendship with the family of Lazarus and his sisters (cf. Lk 10:38) and with the family of Peter (cf. Mk 8:14). He sympathised with grieving parents and restored their children to life (cf. Mk 5:41; Lk 7:14-15). In this way he demonstrated the true meaning of mercy, which entails the restoration of the covenant (cf. John Paul II, Dives in Misericordia, 4). This is clear from his conversations with the Samaritan woman (cf. Jn 1:4-30) and with the woman found in adultery (cf. Jn 8:1-11), where the consciousness of sin is awakened by an encounter with Jesus’ gratuitous love”.

Remember Us In your Will
Preparing a Will is the best way to ensure that the people you care about are properly provided for.
When preparing your Will, your heart and mind turn first to your family and loved ones. Once they are provided for, a Will is a unique opportunity to make a significant gift to the people and organisations you care about. Please prayerfully consider including a gift to our Parish. Your gift will help carry forward the gospel message to future generations.
For more information about how you can leave a legacy to our Parish, call the Parish Office on 3345 3766.
