Dear Parishioners, October and May are traditionally months in which we make a special effort to pray the rosary. During this month you might like to spend some time praying the rosary or pray a decade of the rosary. We remember during this month, the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on 7th October. Also during this month we remember the hundred years since the apparitions of Mary in Fatima. Next Saturday morning there will be a Special Rosary for Australia prayed at Yinbun Park. The rosary begins at 9.45am, so come along and join in praying the rosary, that Mary will continue to intercede to God for the needs of Australia. More details on page two of this newsletter. If you wish to participate in the Wedding Anniversary Mass this Friday night at 7.00pm, you will need to notify the Parish Office on Monday. Couples whose wedding anniversary ends in a “0’’ or “5” are welcome to attend with their family members. Please let the Parish Office know if someone close to you has died in the last 12 months. On Saturday, 4th November at 11.00am, we will celebrate a special Memorial Mass to remember those who have died in the last 12 months. A red rose will be placed near the altar to remember anyone who has died in the last 12 months. The Memorial Book to remember all of our loved ones and friends who have died will be placed on the altar during November. There are books at the front door of the Church to fill in the names of all of your loved ones and friends who have died in the past. These pages will be placed in the Memorial Book to remember all of our loved ones and friends who have died. The annual general meeting for the parishes Friendship Group will be held on Wednesday, 25 th October. In the meantime, on Wednesday, 11 th October, there is a guest speaker presenting the topic “Eat Well and Live Well”. Sounds very interesting – more details on page three of this newsletter. Fr Terry from Acacia Ridge is going on his annual holidays this week. There will be no weekday Masses at Acacia Ridge for the next month. On Thursdays, there will be Liturgy of the Word and Eucharist at 9.00am. We wish Fr Terry all the best during his holidays. Fr Ladu returns from his annual holidays on Monday and Fr Dom will begin his annual holidays on Monday. We welcome Fr Ladu back to the Parish and hope Fr Dom has a good rest on his holidays. Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time: Year A

Introduction: Images of vineyards and gardens abound in today’s readings. In response to the gift of his son Jesus, offered to us by God, we should cultivate ourselves into a garden flourishing with justice and integrity, drawing others into the refreshing peace of God’s kingdom.

First Reading: Ezekiel 5: 1-7 The House of Israel is compared to a well-cared-for vineyard. Even with all the attention which has been lavished upon it, it produces only sour grapes. Expecting a harvest of justice and integrity, only bloodshed and distress have been forthcoming, so the Lord will abandon this vineyard.

Second Reading: Philippians 4: 6-9 For Paul, life in Christ is a life without the need for anxiety or worry. It is rather a life marked by prayer and thanksgiving, with the promise of God’s peace to accompany us.

Gospel: Matthew 21: 33-43 The parable of the vineyard reminds us of the utter generosity of God in sending his son Jesus into the world. This gift was rejected by the very people to whom the gift was offered. What do we do with God’s gift offered to us?

‘THE JOY OF LOVE’ FROM POPE FRANCIS Looking to Jesus: The Vocation of the Family

Jesus restores and fulfils God’s Plan

66. “The covenant of love and fidelity lived by the Holy Family of Nazareth illuminates the principle which gives shape to every family, and enables it better to face the vicissitudes of life and history. On this basis, every family, despite its weaknesses, can become a light in the darkness of the world. ’Nazareth teaches us the meaning of family life, its loving communion, its simple and austere beauty, its sacred and inviolable character. May it teach how sweet and irreplaceable is its training, how fundamental and incomparable its role in the social order’ (Paul Vi, Address in Nazareth, 5 January 1964)”.

Thanks for your support of the Catholic Mission appeal last weekend

Doing our parish appeals requires a lot of organisation: there are speakers to line up, materials to deliver and negotiations with priests to be held. It takes a lot of logistics and a significant in-vestment of time, energy and goodwill, on the part of all partici-pants. However, compared to the challenges faced by those we support, such as Sr Mary in Uganda, the challenges we face are minor. In fact, we do what we do, with your grace and under God’s guidance, because your generosity will transform lives and circumstances. It is what we hear about in today’s second read-ing: “What is true, whatever is honourable, what is lovely, what-ever is gracious…think about these things.” Thank you for focus-ing on the excellent parts of our work and for ensuring that mis-sionaries like Sr Mary need have “no anxiety at all.”
