4th Sunday of Easter John 10:27-30 1. If someone called you a sheep, how would you feel? In today’s world what does being called a sheep mean? 2. Jesus refers to His followers as sheep. How is this different from our meaning of sheep today? Does being one of God’s sheep make you feel loved and cared for? Why or why not? 3. When Jesus says, “The Father and I are one,” what do you think about this? Is it new to you? Does it make you think?

A tribute to all mothers… My earthly mother went to heaven twenty years ago last month. Although it has been two decades, I can s,ll vividly remember her as if she were here with me now. My children didn’t have the opportunity to meet her, but they know her through stories. The story I tell them when I burn something in the kitchen, “It is OK to eat it; burnt makes you beau, ful!” When I don’t feel like ge1ng dressed up, I remember that mom always said “Don’t leave home without earrings and lips,ck”. I can do that. My mom stayed home with us un,l my sister and I were in high school. She spent her ,me baking (she had a sweet tooth!), basking in the sun - with baby oil and iodine ‘sunscreen’, and drinking Diet Rite Colas. She exercised with Jack LaLanne, was homeroom mom and the neighborhood taxi driver. We spent our summers swimming every day, going to the drive-in theater on weekends and having friends over for movies. Our home was the neighborhood gathering place. Looking back, I realize now how strong my mom was. At the age of 26, she became a widow with an 11-month old (me), went back to work and tried her best to move forward. She was pa,ent...when I scraped the bumper off of the car in a parking lot, she got out, pulled the loose piece off the vehicle, threw it into the backseat and said, “Let’s go!” Bap,zed Patricia, mom never liked the nickname ‘Patsy’ because her mom called her that when yelling out the door for her to come to dinner. When my sister had her first child, she told him to call our mom, Grandma Patsy. Mom had the last laugh; she thought it became the Best. Name. Ever. I believe it is not possible to truly appreciate the love and sacrifices our mothers (or fathers) do for us un,l we become parents. I spent my teen years trying to do everything ‘opposite’ of what my mom did; I wanted to be different - my own person. Mom was never offended; she just knew all was going to be well and didn’t take it personally. Dear Lord, please remind me of this when my children want to do the same. Mom never met anyone who couldn’t be a great friend. Her BFF was a beau, ful lady she had met when they were both in grade school. They remained close her en,re life-a true BFF. Family was always top priority for my mom. She hosted her extended family for every holiday, birthday, Super Bowl, New Years, summer/winter/fall/spring party at our home. I never heard her complain once about all of the work required for such generous hospitality. As we all remember our mothers today, let’s all recite a prayer of thanksgiving through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother to her Son Jesus for our giE of life bestowed upon us through our Moms. Blessed Mother, Saint Anne and Saint Monica, Ora Pro Nobis. Joan Dilger
