“Think Piece” from Pastor Mitchell

This is the second week you are receiving "This Week at Trinity", telling you what's happening at Trinity in the coming week. Most every week, I'll have what I am going to call a "think piece" in which I'll invite you to think with me about the various parts of the faith.

This week let's note the mission statement at the top of page 1. "Followers of Jesus, (Disciples!) serving Ash-land and beyond.”

Followers of Jesus. Well no, someone says, I'm a school teacher and husband and father and Rotary mem-ber and, and... What we are saying is that we need, in light of all the changes of our culture, to put it right out there. I am a follower of Jesus.

Years ago we didn't need to be that specific about it. In Ohio everyone, it seemed, was a Christian and the whole society said, "Go to church. Serve the Lord. Do what is right." No more! So we need to be a little more up front about it. I am a follower of Jesus! We need to be up front as a congregation. We are not just a "good works" society. Though we do many good works. We are followers of Jesus!

Have you noticed changes in society from when you were a child? Many of us have. So...from now on we're going to be putting it right at the top. We are followers of Jesus, intentional and open about it. You'll hear from me again next week. Thanks for joining in the "thinking."

In Christ,

Pastor Mitchell

While walking along the sidewalk in front of his church, our minister heard the intoning of a prayer that nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his play-mates had found a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased. The minister’s son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dig-nity intoned his version of what he thought his father always said: ‘Glory be unto the Fa-ther, and unto the Son, and into the hole he goes.’ (I want this used at my funeral!) :)
