Finally, spring is here! Make the most of this time of year that promises renewal and reawakening after the short days and long nights of winter. Here are some suggestions to help you spring right into spring with a great attitude. 1. Start off with a spring cleaning. It's good to have a fresh, clean home in the new season. After winter, your home is probably in need of a good airing and tidying up of things that have accumulated during the winter. It's also good to open up things that have been winterized. 2. Consider getting a new look. Spring is a great time for consider-ing a makeover of your existing look. Have you had the same hairstyle for the past several years? Is your wardrobe due for an update? Spring is a great time to check the age of your makeup. Throw out old makeup and anything that's no longer in style. 3. Find new ways to relax. Spring is a wonderful time of blossom, scent and relief after the colder days. Think of all the butterflies blooming, the bees buzz-ing, and the smell of freshly- mowed grass. Allow yourself to unwind from the hardships of winter forbear-ance and rediscover how to relax.

4. Pick or buy some new season flow-ers. Then put them in a vase in your house. Fresh flowers from your own garden or from a local flower provider will make your house colorful and pretty. Help your local flower growers by buy-ing locally sourced flowers. Grow some flowers in your garden, win-

dow box or on your balcony. Choose flowers that have a special meaning for you or that are in your favorite colors. 5. Go outside. Sit in your garden or go for a walk with a friend. As soon as the weather begins to warm up, spend more time outdoors. If you've been exercising indoors a lot, switch to some more outdoor exercise to benefit from the fresh air and sun-

shine. 6. Draw, paint or photograph spring scenery. Drawing is fun and relaxing and even if you've never tried it before, you never know––you might be quite good. Painting requires an eye for color, and there is plenty of color as the flow-ers blossom and brighter colors start to emerge. FAMOUS WORDS

Interesting Facts

You Never Knew

“After a storm comes a calm.”

Matthew Henry

Did you know . . . The first item listed on eBay was a broken laser pointer.

Did you know . . . William Shakespeare invented the word “hurry.”

Did you know . . . Canada has more lakes than the rest of the world combined.

Did you know . . . Baskin Robbins once made ketchup-flavored ice cream.

Before you belly up to the bar for your St. Patrick's Day celebration, check out these fun facts. Then share them with your friends! You better sit down for this one. St. Patrick was not Irish! His dad was Italian, his mother was Scottish and he was born in Scot-land. His birth name was Maewyn Succat. Who knew? And the whole chasing snakes out of Ireland? Just a legend. Raise Your Glass. On the average day, 5.5 million pints of Guin-ness are consumed around the world. That number more then dou-bles on St. Patrick's Day, with more than 13 million pints going down the hatch. Shake It Up. The beloved McDonald's Shamrock Shake, in-troduced in 1970, is not available nationwide. Ask for this minty, green, dreamy shake in places like Tennessee, North Carolina and Kentucky and they"ll look at you like you are crazy. Check out shamrockshake.com for a com-plete list of Shamrock Shake sight-ings across the country. Better book that church now. St. Patrick's Day is considered the luckiest day of the year to get mar-ried. ...Unless it is a Saturday. Accord-ing to Irish superstition, Saturday is the worst day of the week to get married. As the proverb states "Marry on Monday for wealth - Tuesday for health - Wednesday the

best day of all - Thursday for losses - Friday for crosses - Saturday for no luck at all." Keep your eye on the prize, and the leprechaun. Legend has it that if you catch a leprechaun, he will promise great wealth if you let him go. However, don't take your eyes off him or he will vanish! Four leaf clovers -- for your eyes only. Found a four leaf clover? Great. You will now have good luck in gambling and racing and it will render witchcraft powerless! However, you must always carry it with you and never show it to oth-ers, or your luck will fail. This is way worse than bad luck! Forget about bad luck. According to the Irish, if a black cat crosses your path in the moonlight, you will die in an epidemic. Yikes! Get your green on! Consider yourself warned: if you don't wear green on St. Patrick's Day, people are allowed to pinch you. It was believed that wearing green made you invisible to leprechauns, who would pinch anyone they could see. Revelers began pinching those who didn’t wear green as a reminder of that belief. Seeing Green. For the past 40 years, the Chicago River has been dyed a brilliant shade of emerald green in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Forty pounds of vegetable dye help provide the vibrant hue.
