At the Cape Town Science Centre, we have a wish against climate change. Has your child ever had an awesome idea for a video game or website but didn’t know how to bring it to life? Join the CTSC’s Let’s Code Holiday Club – this is an introduction to coding where we will explore programmes using visual block and object orientated programme software, Scratch, Small Basic and HTML. This club will nurture their 21 st Century skills as they go about producing their first lines of code - Imagine, Explore, Create! This is an excellent opportunity to acquire basic coding skills in a relaxed and creative environment - 12 hours of coding fun over a 4-day period and the opportunity to explore the rest of the CTSC’s offerings. At the Cape Town Science Centre, we have a wish against climate change.

Has your child ever had an awesome idea for a video game or website but didn’t know how to bring it to life? Join the CTSC’s Let’s Code Holiday Club – this is an introduction to coding where we will explore programmes using visual block and object orientated programme software, Scratch, Small Basic and HTML. HOLIDAY REGULARSCAMERA OBSCURAHave you ever taken a tour of the city while standing on one spot? Join us on one of our Camera Obscura tours for a 360° view of the surrounding area. Listen out for announcements to join the tour. Please note that this activity is weather dependant.

SCIENCE SHOW - Daily @ 13:00Some call is magic, we call it science. Our daily Science Shows will excite while nurturing awareness that science is a part of our daily lives.

CUB WEDNESDAYSCubs, Brownies and Scouts from any pack will be given free entry to the CTSC on Wednesday, 25 March 2020 provided they come dressed in their Cub, Brownie or Scouts uniform.

UNBE-LEAF-ABLE ART (Age 6+ • entry fee only) The leaves of our plants play a very important role in transporting nutrients from the roots. Join this amazing hands-on workshop as we learn all about this and even get our hands dirty to create your own art using leaves.

FRIENDLY FEEDER (Age 6+ • entry fee only) When birds struggle to find food during cold, dry months, it’s up to us to lend a hand. Construct a bird feeder to put out at home to help feed birds in your area.

VENOM VS POISON (Age 8+ • entry fee + R5) Is that snake poisonous or venomous? Discover the difference between venom and poison. Get crafty and create a oozy looking snake bite.

ANIMAL STORYTELLING (Age 6 - 12 • entry fee only) Have you ever wondered - What is the main difference between plants and animals? Why do animals have faces? Why don’t fish have necks? Why do all birds lay eggs? Is there an egg-laying mammal? In this fascinating workshop kids will learn about animal classification, distribution, breeding and feeding behaviour, and the factors that endanger them. A large menagerie of realistic animal soft toys will stimulate discussion and help them to answer some tricky questions.

BOTTLED JELLYFISH (Age 8+ • entry fee + R5) Make your own floating jellyfish while discovering the dangers of pollution and why it is important to keep the oceans clean.

OOZING NATURE (Age 6+ • entry fee + R5 per slime) Join the slime craze at the CTSC this holiday. Slime is oozy, sticky and so much fun. Three fun slime options will be explored - ocean slime, mud slime and cloud slime.

THE BIG SHOW & TELLSuitable for all ages, Cost: free

NATURAL DISASTERS Natural disasters happen all around the world. Join us in this explosive demonstration as we discuss what they are, how they form, and even recreate some of the devastating disasters right before your eyes.

OCEAN IN A BOTTLE Onions have layers, oceans have layers too. In this demonstration we dive into the different layers of the ocean. We will also show you how you can recreate the ocean layers inside a bottle.

TRAPPED IN A JAR Join us at the science corner as we take a closer look at the creepy looking creatures floating around in their jars.
