Parish Yard Sale I would like to sincerely thank everyone from the parish who helped at this year’s yard sale. It was a great success with large crowds. I would particularly like to thank Whit Madère for cooking the delicious barbecue, Gene Patterson for baking six Virginia Pound cakes for the bake sale, Bliley Funeral Home for the tent, the Knights of Columbus, the Ladies’ Prayer group, and all the vol-unteers who helped put out the tables before and take them down after. This was my last yard sale. Thank you so much for all your support over the past 11 years. Mike Rowland, Yard Sale Chairman

Upcoming Events June 18—External Solemnity of Corpus Christi with Outdoor Procession after the 11am Mass. June 25—1st Solemn Mass of Fr. Matthew Bean with reception in Fr. Adrian Hall.
Our New “Capital Improvement Fund” As of July 1, 2017, the second collection each Sunday will go towards a fund for parish Capital Improvements. This replaces the current Building Fund. The new name signifies a new fund. The old “tax free” status exemptions have been called back. The diocesan tax, therefore, will be charged on both the 1st and 2nd collection. If we build something new, like a rectory, or a new church, then we initiate a stand-alone fund-raising campaign—tax-free. Please do not be discouraged by this news; I believe it is noth-ing other than the cost of doing business. No sleep should be lost over it. None. Until then, we have many improvements to consider and so we need the 2nd collection Capital Improve-ment Fund. Based on your generosity last year, we have budgeted $65,000 this year. With your continued assistance, we will be able to address the parking lot, and other problems. I remind you that planned giving is the way most of us will be able to give big gifts. Big projects can only be done with at least some bigger gifts. Please make St. Joseph Parish a part of your planned giving. Thank you.
Congratulations, Fr. Bean! The newly ordained Fr. Bean will offer a Solemn High Mass at St. Joseph’s on Sunday, June 25, 11 am. Af-terward he will offer his first blessings at the Commun-ion Rail (indulgence available). Reception to follow in Fr. Adrian Hall.
Savvy Seniors
10 am, Sat., June 24, in Fr. Adrian Hall. Come watch “The Miracle of Father Kapaun” Priest, soldier and Korean War hero. Please bring a breakfast item to share. Coffee and juice provided.
Dear Parishioners, The Blessed Eucharist is a memorial of the passion of the Lord, but also of his Resurrection. The first en-counter with the risen Lord was on Sunday, which is both, as it were, the 8th day of the week--beyond what was possible before, and the 1st day of the week--a new beginning. It is clear from the Acts of the Apos-tles that the gathering of the community for the "breaking of the bread" happened on this same day which acquired the name the Lord's Day. The Eucha-rist and a memorial of the Resurrection were always together. Do we re-enact the Last Supper when we cel-ebrate Mass? No. We re-enact, according to his in-struction to "do this in memory of me" only that part of the Last Supper which was properly instituted by Jesus, what was new. Our Lord prayed in thanksgiv-ing. Was he giving thanks that he had bread to eat? No. While that is proper to a meal, this was not a meal. The institution of the Eucharist was very clear-ly after the meal. According to Pope Benedict XVI: "For what did Jesus give thanks? That his prayer was heard, (cf. Heb. 5:7). He gave thanks in advance that the Father did not abandon him in death (cf. Ps 16:10). He gave thanks for the gift of the Res-urrection, and on that basis he could already give his body and blood in the form of bread and wine as a pledge of resurrection and eternal life (cf. Jn 6:53-58)." (Jesus of Nazareth, p.140). That the Eucharist is given to us as food is a pledge of our participation in his resurrection. It is our resurrection from sin, and its consequences, death. Let us rejoice therefore. Let us joyfully live it. Let us joyfully proclaim it to a fallen world. Let us process in triumph with our resurrected Lord! God love you, Fr. N.
Coffee&
No one has come forward, so, it seems we must curtail Coffee& during the summer months. We’ll resume for sure in the Fall. Many thanks to all who volunteered.
Come Holy Spirit! Congratulations to our newly confirmed members of the parish: Ryan Boswell, An-drew Craven, Tim Grumblatt, Emily Jansen, and Michael Patrowicz. I hope they forgive us for not being present for their ceremony!
