THE KENAN STADIUM EXPERIENCE
“Kenan Stadium is the best place in America to
play college football. The first day I was hired, I
just had goose bumps every time I looked down at
that field from my office. It’s a special place to
play. It will be a special place to coach.”
– Head Coach John Bunting
Kenan Stadium has been the home of the Tar Heels since 1927.
arolina has played host to a number of nationally and regionally televised contests atbeautiful Kenan Stadium, including the 1999 Florida State contest, when NFLgreat
Lynn Swann graced the Tar Heel sidelines.

THE FRANK H. KENAN FOOTBALL CENTER
“We are in an era when football facilities represent howcommitted a program is to being one of the best. AtNorth Carolina, I expected the Smith Center to be oneof the best for basketball — and it is. What surprisedme was how outstanding the new football facility is.They certainly have a top-notch facility. When I walkedaway from Chapel Hill, I was totally impressed. Now Ijudge every other facility against Carolina’s because Ithink they have the best in the country.”

THE FRANK H. KENAN FOOTBALL CENTER
A four-year, $50-million renovation of Kenan Stadium was
completed in 1998, with the addition of the Frank H. Kenan
Football Center and the John W. Pope Stadium Box. The
state-of-the-art, 78,000-square foot football center houses
the Carolina coaches’ offices, lockerrooms, weight room,
training room, equipment room, players’ lounge, computer
labs, study areas, a 100-seat auditorium, theater and the
Hall of Honor, a multimedia history of Tar Heel football.
OUTSTANDING COACHING
Carolina’s coaching staff is one of the best in thenation. Combining 264 years of experience, theTar Heel staff brings a diverse knowledge of the
game from several schools, professionalleagues and conferences around the country. Inaddition to its vast collegiate experience, the TarHeel players benefit from the 19 years of NFLexperience from head coach John Bunting. Awinner at every stop in his coaching career,
Bunting was an NFL assistant coach for KansasCity, St. Louis and New Orleans. He was theco-defensive coordinator for the Super Bowl
champion Rams in 1999.
Head Coach JohnBunting won aSuper Bowl with theSt. Louis Rams
“A gusto for playing this great sport of football iswhat I want to give this team. I want this team toearn respect for the way it plays. It’s a fun sport, but you can’t have any fun if you’re not playinghard.”

STRENGTH & CONDITIONINGTHE CORNERSTONE OF A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM
“I think an athlete has to be prepared to win men-
tally, physically and emotionally, so preparing an
athlete to win encompasses a lot of areas of prepa-
ration. If an athlete is challenged in his training he
develops the proper attitude and discipline, which I
think definitely transfers to winning.”
