Many years ago the Mayas could be located in some parts of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, some parts of Honduras, and some small regions of El Salvador. All of those countries were divided into three regions which are Northern Lowlands, Central Lowlands and Southern Highlands. The Northern Lowland and Central Lowland are covered with forest, bushes, rivers and creeks included Southern Campeche, Belize , Petén and parts of Tabasco and Chiapas. the Southern Highlands is made of the Pacific coast of Chiapas, Guatemala and Western El Salvador.

The Mayan king was the most important and powerful person. The slaves created the Mayan temples with their own two hands . When the Mayan king died usually his oldest son would become the king. Usually the Mayans exchanged salt, jade, and honey with cocoa. They also exchanged with quetzal feathers. The Artisans are awesome because they drew beautiful pictures in the walls of the temples, they spent their time drawing. Almost all the majority of people were farmers.

The Mayan people got materials to do their own houses. Their were slaves in the Mayan society. If a king was captured some people would sacrifice him and give some of his blood to the Gods.

Maya builders used blocks cuffed with headed hammers. They did not have any cows or cattle to carry the blocks they had to take the blocks with their hands , some times they took the blocks from far way distances. The buildings were often Painted with beautiful colors such as recado or bright blue color.Artists also painted on walls called murals or also made sculptures using the images of their gods and kings.

Most of the Mayan people were farmers who farmed corn, beans, squash, and fruits such as papaya and cacao and also the cacao seeds were used as money. The Mayas did slash and burn which means that they chopped the land and then burn the fields. The Mayas sometimes dug canals to get water from rivers to their fields and used fertilizers.

Mayans build towns and cities. In 800 A.D there were about forty cities with a big population of 5,000 to 9,000 people. They build cities such as Lamanai, Altun ha, Caracol and more. Their were 800,000 Mayas living here in Belize. The Maya built the temples with their own hands ; they didn’t use tools. The bulls and cows helped the Mayans to carry heavy logs. Some logs were brought from long distance and carried all the way to the pyramid. the buildings were painted in bright colors and with recado. Artist also painted pictures with images and history of gods and kings

The Maya had two calendars one called Solar Calendar and the other one was called Sacred Calendar. They have a small calendar named in their language tzolkin this Calendar has 13 months. Each month has twenty days with a total of 260 days in a year.A third recording time was long count, similar to Christmas before the birth of Christ. The Maya used 13 August 3114 B.C as their year zero. They predicted the future; they said that on December 21st 2012 the world will end. They have the solar calendar called Haab. It was made up of 18 months.

The two most powerful Maya states were Quiche and Kakchiquel. The Popol-Vuh was a very important book in Quiche , it tells histories and myths of rulers. Also, the Popol-Vuh was one of the books which survived after the Spanish conquer. The Maya were divided when Spanish people conquered them in Belize, Guatemala and Yucatan. Many Maya people died in the conquer of the Spanish and Maya. That was because Spanish brought diseases such as small pox.
