Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians

It was great to see so many parents come along last week to have meetings with teachers to see how their child has settled at school and discussed some learning goals. Thank you also to the many parents who returned the questionnaire about their child, which is most helpful to staff.

Whilst our classroom teachers were busy meeting with parents, our specialist teachers worked with our new Digital technologies/Student Wellbeing Coordinator, Matt Brand on our new whole school communication system ‘Sentral’.

Kingsley Park is continuing to strive to improve communication with parents. Our new initiative is opening our new Parent Portal in our Sentral administration and reporting system designed to make communication between home and school better for all.

Sentral has become one of the most widely used software systems in Australian schools. KPPS staff have been using Sentral since the beginning of the year to track important information including student absences, first aid, student assessment, student administration and management. Students are now accessing their own portal.

Sentral’s Parent Portal provides parents with 24/7 access to important information about your child/ren. Initially you will be able to view and message your child’s teacher, view attendance data and explain absences, view your child’s digital portfolio (which is only just beginning) and as we roll out more modules to staff, you will be able to track your child’s learning progress, view your child’s achievement data and view your child’s reports. Each parent will receive an email invitation to sign up for the Parent Portal soon. Please ensure we have an email address for each family.

We hope you enjoy using Sentral and welcome any feedback on the new system. If you are unsure, parents of children in Years 3-6 should ask their child to help learn their way around the system. Stay tuned for more information which will be on its way shortly. We also hope to have our school FaceBook page up and running soon! Keep smiling! Regards, Gill Gray.

This fortnight’s focus is Persistence Persistence means ‘the harder I try the better I get’. Giving your best effort with things that are difficult makes them become easier with practice. I can show persistence.

When I am showing persistence: I will help people to improve. I sometimes do things that I don’t enjoy. I see the work through to the end. I don’t give up and I keep trying. I consistently give my best effort.

I have a go. I am not afraid of making mistakes. I will be positive about things. I try new things. I take risks.

The next meeting of the KP Group is :

Friday 24th March Please join us in the Conference Room for a

cuppa and a chat !

All welcome ! Donations Needed

The Carnival Committee still have a mammoth amount of planning and organisation to complete, with many items still left to purchase in order to make this event successful. If families could assist in donating any of the following items, it would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be left at the school office or by contacting any of the Committee members.

Cans of coloured hairspray.

Books, CD’s, DVD’s or old video games in good working order, that you no longer require. (please NO trash or treasure items)

Items that would be suitable for the mystery jars, things that your child would be happy to win and small enough to go in a jar, eg wrapped lollies, hair ties, marbles etc.

Class Stalls In the coming weeks, class teachers will be advised of which stalls they have been allocated. Parent volunteers on stalls will be vital in making the Carnival a success - shifts will be rostered in 30 minute blocks so please consider whether you can assist your child’s class. Your child’s teacher will communicate the details of their class stall with you.

District Swimming

Congratulations to the 12 students listed below who represented Kingsley Park Primary School at the District Swimming carnival on Tuesday 28th February.

Audrey Bechaz

Hannah Doble

Aleira Duff

Lily Rose Hall-Krause

All students had participated in a time trial selection from which their events were decided. The students participated to the best of their ability in all of their events. Considering we were one of the smaller swimming teams, with only 12 students, we finished extremely well and placed 3rd out of 6 schools.

Good luck to the following students who will represent Kingsley Park at the Divisional Swimming carnival at the Pines Pool on Wednesday 15th March.

RIDE2SCHOOL Day

Friday 17th March is National Ride to School Day.

Ride2School day is the perfect opportunity for students and school communities to embrace a healthier start and lifestyle by trying to walk or ride to school for themselves. Over the past 40 years the number of children who are physically active everyday has significantly dropped. Today, levels of physical activity are at an all-time low. This is the perfect and simple opportunity to increase student’s participation in physical activity. You don’t just have to ride a bike to school, it can be any sort of active travel such as walking, running, scooters or skateboards. We would love to see as many students using this day to come to school by active travel. On the day, students will be asked how they came to school. The grade with the most amount of active participants will receive a Ride2School active travel trophy. Good luck to all grades and we look forward to seeing which class wins. Miss Garrity.

There is a red post box at the front office labelled Parent Feedback. If you have any feedback at any time on any issue, please leave it in the post box. There will also be feedback forms that you may complete, if you haven’t already written something down. We would love to hear your thoughts and help make Kingsley Park the best it can be. MISSION It is the mission of Kingsley Park Primary School to be a happy, safe and inspiring learning environment where

children develop skills and qualities necessary to succeed in an ever changing world.

VALUES The 5 Keys for student achievement, well-being and positive relationships.

Getting Along Persistence Confidence Organisation Resilience

GETTING ALONG Getting along means working well with teachers and classmates, resolving problems peacefully and contributing positively to the community. I can get along with other children, teachers and people in the community.

When I am getting along: I am a positive role model to people around me. I show generosity and kindness. I interact with people and show them respect. I am helpful. I demonstrate the best way to be a good friend, in the classroom and in the playground. I am a friend to someone if they are alone at school. I show manners wherever I go, especially when in school uniform. I take pride in who I am, a Kingsley Park Kid.

PERSISTENCE

Persistence means ‘the harder I try the better I get’. Giving your best effort with things that are difficult makes them become easier with practice. I can show persistence.

When I am showing persistence: I will help people to improve. I sometimes do things that I don’t enjoy. I see the work through to the end. I don’t give up and I keep trying.

CONFIDENCE

Confidence means knowing that you will most likely be successful and that people will like you. I can show confidence in my abilities.

When I am confident: I will ask for help from a teacher or another child. I will present work in front of an audience in a clear and coherent manner. I will finish my tasks to the best of my ability. I can disagree with someone’s opinion but still listen and show respect. I continue with new tasks even when I find them challenging. I am proud of my achievements and celebrate achieving personal goals.

ORGANISATION Organisation means having everything you need to complete tasks and knowing what you are working towards. I can be organised for everyday tasks and challenges.

When I am organised: I will finish my tasks on time and to the best of my ability. My desk and locker will be clean, neat and tidy. I will have all of my essential items ready before I begin a task. My work will be presented neatly. I will pay attention and follow instructions carefully. I will set long and short-term learning and personal goals for myself. I will achieve my goals by using small steps and reflect on my effort.

Kingsley Park Primary School Learning Agreement

YOU CAN DO IT

I consistently give my best effort. I try new things. I take risks. I have a go. I am not afraid of making mistakes. I will be positive about things.

Page 7: This fortnight’s focus is Persistence€¦ · will be able to track your child’s learning progress, view your child’s achievement data and view your child’s reports. Each

RESILIENCE Resilience means staying calm and controlling your behaviour when you are upset so that you can bounce back from difficult situations. I can be resilient.

When I am being resilient: I am able to deal with tough situations. I bounce back when things are difficult. I persist when I don’t succeed the first time. I stay positive throughout the day. I think before I do and I don’t let anger control my actions. I show a positive attitude, even when things are challenging. I talk about and try to solve problems with my friends in a positive way. I am a role model by having a great attitude. I try not to focus on the negative. I try not to take things personally. I move on when things are upsetting. I am grateful for the small things.

At Kingsley Park Primary School it is an expectation that all children will follow the school learning

agreement. Please read through each key carefully with your child and discuss the values and expectations of our school.

On Friday 17th March the students and staff at Kingsley Park will be acknowledging

and launching the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. Children will be participating in activities relating to Bullying and Social and Emotional Learning throughout the week from Friday 17

th March to Friday 24

th March.

Children are being encouraged to wear a ‘touch’ of orange to show their support for this great cause. For example children may wear orange socks, headbands, hair ties etc. T-shirts are acceptable but singlets are not allowed.

It is not a free dress day and school uniform is required.

Children will receive a wristband and an information card. We encourage any family members to go onto these great websites to find information on bullying.
