UNDERSTANDING JESUS, THE SON OF GOD
“The Gospel of Jesus, the Christ, Son of God. “The Gospel of Mark begins with those words. A
phrase of which we can get much: Jesus is the Messiah , the Son of God and He has a “Good News”.
That’s what the word Gospel means: “Good News” It becomes more understandable in the
announcement of the Kingdom (Cfr. Mc. 1, 14-15); in many healings that Jesus performed; in the
astonishment of the people, who listened to Jesus and saw his miracles; in eating with sinners ; in
the freedom with which his followers acted….. But soon especially from Chapter 3 and following,
Jesus suffered misunderstanding, rejection and persecution.
We see that after the healing of the man with the paralyzed hand, the Pharisees and Herodians got
together to look for the form to eliminate Jesus (Cfr. Mc 3,6)
The greatest miss understanding of Jesus, we see in his family members, they were looking for Him
because they said: “He had lost his mind”. The miss understanding of his family members was
because Jesus had separated himself from the familiar circle. He had become a Prophet, who goes
preaching to different places and speaks about God in a new way, and of a Kingdom that has come.
Another misunderstanding came from stronger and learned groups, as the Scribes, who said: “He is
possessed by Satan, prince of the Demons, and that is why He casts them out.” Jesus called the
Scribes close to Him, and asked them: “how can Satan cast Satan?” and He explained to them with
parables, but they did not open themselves to the truth, to the light of Jesus. And it was when Jesus
spoke about the sin against the Holy Spirit, which is the sin of closing the mind and the heart to the
truth, of not recognizing that sweet wind that moves us from inside; of not accepting salvation that
comes from God. As we have said, the miss understanding which hurt Jesus heart the most, came
from closer people, from family members, who were looking for Him… And Jesus had the
opportunity to say: “Who fulfills the will of God, he\she is my brother, my sister and my mother.”
I ask myself: Who is Jesus for me? What astonishes me about Him? What is hard for me to
understand from his messages? ---Sister Celia Campoy, MDPVM

ST. MARTIN MEN’S CLUB
MEETING
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2017
6:30PM IN THE PARISH HALL
MATACHINES NEEDED! We will be celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Tuesday,
December 12 at 5pm. We would like to invite all youth 10 years and
up to participate in this event by joining a Matachines group made up
of fellow parishioners. Matachines is an old tradition that comes from
Mexico where dancers gather together and dress up to perform a
ritualistic dance. The procession on Dec. 12 will begin at St. Gertrude
Parish and end at St. Martin Church with mass and reception to follow.
We will hold practices at Our Lady of Good Counsel at 5pm on Nov.
19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 10 so that we can work on the necessary footwork,
choreography and costumes. Children do not need to have past dance
experience the dance is simple. We hope that this program can become
successful by your help.
