FROM FATHER JOHN: “Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened.” ~ Rev. Billy Graham Helen Keller wrote that “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” Today is Veteran’s Day. It is the day each year when our nation on honors all of our Military Veterans. I want to thank each of our Military Veterans for their service to our nation. The United States was founded on the principles of liberty, justice and freedom for all our people. Our men and women who serve our country in the military make sacrifices every day to protect our country and its ideals. Their willingness to risk their lives to defend our freedoms, to ensure that liberty prevails in the world and that the people of our nation are kept safe from all those forces in the world that would like to destroy us is what allows the United States to be a beacon of light, freedom and liberty for the world. To the Veterans of our parish, thank you for the sacrifices you have made for all of us! I want to give you an update on the construction of our new Parish Center. As you know, the requirements for a new building included 5,000 square feet of usable space, offices, meeting spaces, a dedicated Youth Ministry meeting space, storage, etc. as well as having to fit the aesthetic nature of our campus. Our architect and our Buildings and Grounds committee’s design team came up with a design that met all these requirements. The cost of demolition of the old convent building was $78,000 and the bid cost of the new building is $758,000. All that is left is completing construction of the new building, getting an occupancy permit from the city of Joliet and then moving into our new Parish Center. A lot of work has been done on the new building. The foundation, footings, walls, floor, ceiling, roof etc. have been completed. What I thought I would do is share with you the entire timeline that our construction company gave us at the start of the project so you could where the project stands. You will see the Project stage and the Projected Completion date below. The projected completion of the project is Christmas week. Some Project Stages have been completed before their projected completion date and other stages will be completed after their projected completion date. I have to honestly say that I think we have fallen a little bit behind schedule and that we may not see the building completed until January of 2019. Once the building is completed, we have to be given an occupancy permit from the city of Joliet before we can move into the new building.
