For if we believe that Jesus died and rose,
so too will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep.
1 Thessalonians 4:14
M y Dear Friends in Christ,
These words of Saint Paul are directed at those in the Christian Community
who were worried about their loved ones separated by death. The living were
afraid that those who had died would be kept from the saving power of Jesus
Christ. Paul reminds them that Jesus Christ is more powerful than death and
Jesus Christ seeks to raise all who have died. As we continue to remember our
beloved family and friends throughout this month of November, we recall in a
special way those from our community who had died this past year.
Saint Paul also reminds us who are living, that our belief in Jesus Christ is also
powerful for us and not just for those who have died. Our belief is not a matter
of mere words nor is it remembering the event that occurred 2,000 years ago.
Truly believing that Jesus Christ has died and is risen means living the fullness
of Christ’s life right now. Truly believing is about being formed in God’s image
and likeness, about subsuming our will to God’s, about putting the needs of
the other before my own, all as Christ did. This is what lies at the heart of stew-
ardship, that our belief in Jesus Christ guides and changes our lives, how we
think of and share our time, talent, and treasure. This is how we hope to share
in the eternal banquet with Christ (and those who have gone before us) forever
in Heaven. Know of my thoughts and prayers for you.
Peace,
St. Francis-St. Mary

WE REMEMBER… Children lost through miscarriage,
stillbirth, abortion, illness or injury
November 18, 2017 5 p.m. Mass
November 19, 2017 9 and 11a.m. Mass
(Please note the date in the e-newsletter was incorrect.)
On the weekend of November 18th
and 19th
,
Holy Family will remember
babies and children lost
through miscarriage, still-
birth, abortion, illness or
injury. Grief over the loss
of a child is profound and
long lasting. This oppor-
tunity allows the communi-
ty of Holy Family to grieve
with the families. All those
who have lost children of any age as well as
those who wish to support these families are
encouraged to attend. The Elizabeth Ministry
is sponsoring this event.
If you have lost a baby or child, please ar-
rive approximately ten minutes before
Mass begins in the narthex. This is for the
purpose of marking a carnation in remem-
brance of your loved one(s).
“I will never forget you. Upon the palms of my hands I have written your name.” Is 49:15-16

Poor Box
The poor box this weekend is for Holy Family Emergency
Assistance Fund. This fund is used to assist parishioners
and on occasion other local organizations to meet the
urgent needs of people involved in heating or housing
crisis situations.
The poor box for next weekend is for St. Vincent de Paul
Society of Frederick. In today’s Gospel, Jesus challenges
us to “stay awake” by taking time to seriously look at our-
selves, the priorities of our lives, and how we are growing
spiritually. Ask yourself “What would Jesus Christ do?” and
then put your gift in the poor box so that those who are
suffering will be able to celebrate Thanksgiving. 301-662-
