For this project I was directed to create a dwelling for a single individual with minimal square footage. Minimize area without sacri-ficing usability. This micro dwelling is 96 sq. ft., yet maintains an open feel with large windows, a skylight, loft area, and open balcony. It is complete with a roof garden and a solar panel to lower utility costs.

Programs Used: Auto Cad, Revit

abstract CUBE The objective of this project was to create a piece of work consistent with a chosen word, in my case, tenacious. TENACIOUS - Persistent in maintaining, adher-ing to, or seeking something valued or desired. Not easily discour-aged. I used forms to create an abstract 3-D composition within a 10” cube. I placed cubes between rectilinear forms held up by a tension joint to create tenacity.

With this project I analyzed Lina Bo Bardi’s glass home in São Paulo. I created diagrams and a complete Revit model of the home. I then used this information to create a home in Bo Bardi’s style. The objective was for the design to be able to pass as a Bo Bardi design that had been lost, and now rediscovered.

The most important elements to include to make it a Bo Bardi work is the interaction with the landscape and “the void”. The void in this house is the entire second level. At the center there is an interior courtyard which is viewable form each level.

An open floor plan eliminates wasted areas, such as hallways, maximizing the use space. Large windows and an wrap around deck increase the space without adding sq. ft. With this design I also calcu-lated the energy costs, comparing the sav-ings to a built baseline home. Thirty-year electricity costs were lowered by $3,000.

Programs Used: Revit, Vasari

Affordable living is defined not only by the cost of materials and construction, but the resident’s utility costs, maintenance, and resale value. A prominent issue with affordable housing is that there is a trade off for aesthetically pleasing design with affordability. This study focuses on creat-ing a dwelling that is both efficient and beautiful.

emergent CHUNKThe goal of this project was to create a “chunk” of house that used emergent technology. Using Processing I created line work to then be modeled into Maya. I chose to model with tubing in order to keep the line work in its truest form. The chunk is composed of three iterations of lines: interior voids, binding strands, and an exterior shell. The three layers are completely intertwined in order to create one system that can not be separated.

directing LIGHTThis hanging lamp was inspired by the way sunlight shines through the branches and leaves of a tree. It has a exterior and inte-rior shell. The interior metal shell with half moon cut outs reflects and filters the rays from the light bulb. The modular exterior continues to direct the rays into many dif-ferent directions. The wood of the exterior keeps a warm and natural feel.

Programs used: Rhino, Auto Cad, Laser cut-ter.

dinoSAUR

Layout for CNC Router. 8’ x 4’

This project was a simple exercise in fabrica-tion and natural joints. By drawing the dino-saur’s pieces in auto cad I was able to scale them to fit on a 4’ x 8’ piece of mdf plywood.

Programs used: Auto Cad, CNC Router.

night STANDThe objective of this project was to create a high end piece of furniture out of a 4 x 8’ piece of plywood. Utilize friction and natural connections. No screws, or nails. Can be taken apart to shipped flat.
