    THIRD ST ANDREWSPAIN SYMPOSIUM

    June 11 12, 2009College Hall, North Street

    St Andrews

This one and a half day meeting is wide ranging in the field ofpain, with excellent speakers in a convivial venue.

The meeting marks the retiral of Dr Bill Macrae, ConsultantAnaesthetist and Pain Physician, the leading light of the TaysidePain Service over the last decades and founder member of theNorth British Pain Association.

The 1st and 2nd St Andrews Pain Symposia were organised by Bill

    in 1986 and 1989.

Samuel Johnson (1709-84) an English man of letters who wrote:

"St Andrews seems to be a place eminently adapted to study andeducation, being situated in a populous yet cheap country, and exposing the mindsandmanners of young men neither to the levity and dissoluteness of acapital

city, nor to the gross luxury of a town of commerce, places naturallyunpropitious to learning; in one the desire of knowledge easily giveswayto the love of pleasure, and in the other, is in danger of yielding to thelove of money."
