Gathering Rite
O servants of God, let us sing our praise.
We bless your holy name, O God.
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
We bless your holy name, O God.
You lift up the weak and hungry.
We bless your holy name, O God.
And your glory shines above the heavens
We bless your holy name, O God.
Your canopy of vigil lights,
each star your hand has set in place,
bestows a blessing on the night,
and all creation sings your praise.
You formed the moon and fired the sun,
you quickened dust with holy breath,
and binding us to your dear Son,
renewed our life, destroyed our death.
2
You walk with us along the way,
your Word, a lamp to pilgrim feet;
stay with us now at close of day, | Sunday: break of day,
our unknown guest, our host and feast.
Grant those who share this evening meal | Sunday: morning meal
the faith and vision to believe
that hearts might see what eyes conceal:
by grace your presence we receive.
Refreshed by Sabbath rest this night | Sunday: last night,
awaken us to your shalom;
the reign of Christ, unfailing Light,
where peace and justice are at home
and saints need neither moon nor sun
to sing your praise eternally.
O merciful, immortal One,
O blessed, holy Trinity.
Greeting
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.
Prayer of the Day
Let us pray,
Lord God, your lovingkindness always goes before us and follows after us.
Summon us into your light, and direct our steps in the ways of goodness that
come through the cross of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen
First Reading Isaiah 9:1-4
The northern tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali experienced the gloom of defeat by Assyrian
military forces, but they are assured that their condition will be reversed when God makes a
light-filled appearance. The joy they will experience will resemble celebrations of great
harvests, because God will deliver them from everything that diminishes or oppresses them.
1There will be no gloom for those who were in anguish. In the former time [the
LORD] brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in
the latter time he will make glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the
Jordan, Galilee of the nations. 2The people who walked in darkness have seen a
great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.
3
3You have multiplied the nation, you have increased its joy; they rejoice before
you as with joy at the harvest, as people exult when dividing plunder. 4For the
yoke of their burden, and the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their
oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian.
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Second Reading 1 Corinthians 1:10-18
Paul calls on the Corinthians to end their dissensions and share the unified outlook of the
gospel. Discord arises when we forget that we belong not to human leaders or institutions
but to Christ. Indeed, the unifying word of the cross of Christ is the center of the gospel and
the power of God’s salvation.
10Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ, that all of you be in agreement and that there be no divisions among you,
but that you be united in the same mind and the same purpose. 11For it has
been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there are quarrels among you, my
brothers and sisters. 12What I mean is that each of you says, “I belong to Paul,”
or “I belong to Apollos,” or “I belong to Cephas,” or “I belong to Christ.” 13Has
Christ been divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the
name of Paul? 14I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and
Gaius, 15so that no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16(I did
baptize also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I
baptized anyone else.) 17For Christ did not send me to baptize but to proclaim
the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of Christ might not
be emptied of its power.
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia;
Alleluia, alleluia
Your words are sweet to taste,
Sweeter than honey to our mouth.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia;
Alleluia, alleluia

The Holy Gospel according to Matthew Matthew 4:12-23
Glory to you, O Lord.
Jesus begins his public ministry shortly after John the Baptist is imprisoned by Herod. He
proclaims the nearness of God’s reign and calls four fishermen to be his first disciples.
12Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. 13He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory
of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14so that what had been spoken through the prophet
Isaiah might be fulfilled: 15“Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali, on the road by
the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—16the people who sat in
darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and
shadow of death light has dawned.” 17From that time Jesus began to proclaim,
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” 18As he walked by the Sea
of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his
brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. 19And he said to
them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” 20Immediately they left
their nets and followed him. 21As he went from there, he saw two other brothers,
James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father
Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. 22Immediately they left the
boat and their father, and followed him. 23Jesus went throughout Galilee,
teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom
and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.
The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.
Sermon
"Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don't know and never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be known,
will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?
"Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare, should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer pray'r in you and you in me?
"Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name?
Will you set the pris'ners free and never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean, and do such as this unseen,
and admit to what I mean in you and you in me?
Hymn of the Day “Will You Come and Follow Me” ELW 798
5
"Will you love the you you hide if I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same?
Will you use the faith you've found to reshape the world around,
through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?"
Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you and never be the same.
In your company I'll go where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I'll move and live and grow in you and you in me.
Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy
Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died,
and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he
ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will
come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Prayers of Intercession
Offering
The eyes of all look to you, O God, to give them life and food.
You open wide your gracious hand and grant them every good.
With all creation we proclaim your steadfast love and glorious reign.
We bless your holy name.
To all who hunger you provide the fruit of vine and field.
From these, your gifts, we set aside a portion for this meal,
where you draw near to those who cry, their heart's desire to satisfy,
We bless your holy name.

Offertory Hymn
6
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is indeed right…we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of pow’r and might:
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is the one who comes, who comes in the name of the Lord,
Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.
The Eucharistic Prayer
Holy God, you alone are holy, you alone are God. The universe declares your praise: beyond
the stars, beneath the sea, within each cell, with every breath.
We praise you, O God
Generations bless your faithfulness: through the waters, across the wilderness, by night
and day, out of exile, into the future.
We bless you, O God.
We give you thanks for your Son: at the heart of human life, near to those who suffer,
beside the sinner, among the poor, with us now.
We thank you, O God.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for
the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This
cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of
sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Remembering his love for us on the way, at the table, and to the end, we proclaim the
mystery of faith:
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
Great Thanksgiving
Sanctus
7
We pray for the gift of your Spirit in our gathering, upon this bread, within this cup, among
your people, throughout the world. Blessing, praise, and thanks to you, Holy God, for your
mercy, through Christ Jesus, by your Spirit, in your Church, without end.
Amen, amen, amen.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be
done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and
deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now
and forever. Amen.
Invitation to Communion All are welcome to receive the Sacrament.
Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world
have mercy on us, have mercy on us. (x2)
Lamb of God you take away the sin of the world
grant us peace, grant us peace.
You have come down to the lakeshore
seeking neither the wise nor the wealthy,
but only asking for me to follow.
Refrain:
Sweet Lord, you have looked into my eyes;
kindly smiling, you've called out my name.
On the sand I have abandoned my small boat;
now with you, I will seek other seas.
You know full well what I have, Lord:
neither treasure nor weapons for conquest,
just these my fish nets and will for working. /R
You need my hands, my exhaustion,
working love for the rest of the weary—
a love that's willing to go on loving. /R
You who have fished other waters;
you, the longing of souls that are yearning:
O loving Friend, you have come to call me. /R

“Take, Oh, Take Me As I Am” ELW 814
Take, oh, take me as I am; summon out what I shall be;
set your seal upon my heart and live in me.
Post-Communion Canticle
By your hand you feed your people, food of angels, heaven's bread;
for these gifts we did not labor, by your grace we have been fed;
Refrain:
Christ's own body, blessed and broken, cup o'er flowing, life outpoured,
given as a living token of your world redeemed, restored.
In this meal we taste your sweetness, bread for hunger, wine of peace;
holy Word and holy wisdom satisfy our deepest needs /R
Send us now with faith and courage to the hungry, lost, bereaved,
In our loving and our dying, we become what we receive; /R
Prayer After Communion
Creator of the stars and night, we give you thanks for this gift of life.
Increase our faith and open our eyes that we might recognize Jesus
in all whom you call us to love and serve.
Abide with us as darkness deepens | Sunday: as light ascends
and be our hope and highest joy, until at last with all your saints
we dwell in your unfailing light.
Benediction
Sending Song “Jesus Calls Us; o'er the Tumult” ELW 696
Jesus calls us; o'er the tumult of our life's wild, restless sea,
day by day his clear voice sounding, saying, "Christian, follow me":
As of old Saint Andrew heard it by the Galilean lake,
turned from home and toil and kindred, leaving all for Jesus' sake.
Jesus calls us from the worship of the vain world's golden store,
from each idol that would keep us, saying, "Christian, love me more."
In our joys and in our sorrows, days of toil and hours of ease,
still he calls, in cares and pleasures, "Christian, love me more than these."
Jesus calls us! By your mercy, Savior, may we hear your call,
give our hearts to your obedience, serve and love you best of all.
Go in peace. Share the good news. Thanks be to God
