Rising 3 rd Grader Third Grade Teachers Over the summer, each student is required to read 20 minutes each day. This is great practice to develop key reading skills and be prepared for 3 rd grade. Students should read at least 10 books, 3 of which must be chapter books. See the list of book series, awesome authors, and non-fiction topics suggested on the back of this letter. Students should select books that are on their reading level. (Remember, you can check book levels by going to www.arbookfind.com ) Students should also practice addition and subtraction math facts over the summer, so they are as efficient as possible at the start of 3 rd grade. Multiplication will begin 2 nd quarter, which requires a strong foundation in repeated addition. If your student has mastered addition/subtraction facts, looking ahead at multiplication facts could be a fun challenge. See a list of online math games that are liked by students and teachers on the back of this letter. Use the check boxes included to “Have Fun” with writing, math, and reading this summer!!!
