Third Grade Math• Hello, and welcome to 3rd grade math. Your child’s teacher is either Miss

Lagunero or Ms. Trundle, and we are excited to be working with you this year! We are including some information that you may find helpful for this school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us by phone, email, or note. Thanks so much for your support!

• Math fluency: Students will take 3 fluency tests each 6 week period. The scores will count as a regular grade. Flashcards are excellent for practice at home, if needed! Students are expected to know math facts to 18.

• Math homework: is given every Thursday, and is due by 8:15 in the hallway boxes.

• Web sites to check out!• www.funbrain.com• www.mathisfun.com• www.mathslice.com• www.mathplayground.com• www.gr3math.com• Grades: Daily grades are worth 70 percent of a student’s overall grade, and

tests/assessments are worth the other 30 percent.• How YOU can help your child at home:• Ask what he/she is learning about every day; try to apply the skills learned to

everyday situations; make sure homework is completed; practice the addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts; use mathematical language whenever possible.

Third Grade Social Third Grade Social StudiesStudies

Our major topic of study will be various aspects of the community: physical, human and cultural characteristics, ways they have changed over time, people who have influenced them and community government.

Map skills will be refined and the free-enterprise system will be explored.

There will be numerous opportunities to create projects and participate in group or partner discussions. Participation and effort are crucial to your student’s success in Social Studies.

We encourage our Clements/Parsons families to continue our class discussions at home. Please visit our website for current topics of discussion.
