The Full Package
There was once a very thin manWho lived in a very thin houseWith a very thin doorThat led to a very thin roomWith a very thin window That overlooked a very thin parkIn a very thin neighborhoodWith very thin peopleIn a very thin city
This thin man thought very thin thoughtsAbout his very thin worldIn his very thin houseIn his very thin roomAs he looked out his very thin windowWhich overlooked the very thin parkIn a very thin neighborhoodWith very thin peopleIn a very thin cityIn their very thin world
This thin man had been thin all his lifeHe had eaten very thin foodHe had drunk very thin drinksAs he thought his very thin thoughtsAnd he had dreamed very thin dreams
He had grown up in a very thin houseWith very thin roomsWith very thin doorsAnd very thin windowsThat overlooked very thin parksIn very thin citiesThroughout his very thin world
He walked with very thin stepsAcross his very thin floorAnd shaved with a very thin razorAnd drank from a very thin cupAnd spoke on a very thin phoneIn a very thin voice
He had worked in very thin officesIn very thin citiesIn many very thin countriesWith many very thin bosses And spoke on the phone in very thin languagesTo very thin peopleWho spoke very thin thoughts tooAnd had very thin ideas and talked only about thinness
He was shocked one day when he heard a very loud knock On his very thin doorAnd when he asked who it wasA very loud voice said, "I Am Fulness!"
"Why you are not welcome here!" he criedAfraid of the very loud voice
On the other side of his very thin doorOf his very thin roomIn his very thin houseIn his very thin neighborhoodIn his very thin cityIn his very thin world
"My world is a very thin world, I know nothing of "Fullness," he said with a very thin frown.
Fulness answered, "Open the door, and I will show youa secret.
"Why should I want your secret?" the thin man responded."Is your secret thin?""No," replied Fulness, "My secret is full."
"Then I have no use for it," said the very thin man.
"How would you know if you have never experienced it?" asked Fulness."Because I live a very thin lifeIn a very thin worldAnd I think very thin thoughtsIn my very thin waySo I have no room for Fulness,"Replied the very thin man.
"Okay," said Fulness, "I will leave you nowTo your very thin life And your very thin thoughtsIn your very thin mindIn your very thin world Because Fulness can only enter inWhere it is acceptedAnd where it can expandSo that it can fitBecause fulnessCan only inhabit fulness."
But I will leave you a very full secret in front of your very thin doorIn your very thin neighborhoodIn your very thin cityIn your very thin world.
If you should ever need it, it is there for you.
"What is it the secret to?" asked the very thin manAllowing for a very thin thought of curiosity in his very thin mind.
"It's the secret to what to do If you ever findThat your very thin thoughtsIn your very thin mind In your very thin houseIn your very thin neighborhoodIn your very thin cityAs you look out of your very thin windowOver your very thin worldAre no longer enough," replied Fulness
The very thin manHeard very loud footsteps growing thinner and thinnerRetreating away From his very thin door
After a while he ventured to open the thin doorso he cracked it a very thin crackAnd found a very full packageWrapped with a very full wrappingAnd a very full bowIn front of his very thin door
He stared at it, not knowing quite what to do His very thin thoughts immediately told him not to touch itThat something full might happen if he did!
So he stood there, staring at the full packageIn front of his thin doorHe closed the door, but realized too lateThat he had partially opened the door Of his very thin mind to 'Fulness'By just opening the door and realizing There was a very full package With a very full wrapping In front of his very thin door
Embarrassed and afraid His very thin thoughts Sent him into a very thin panic! What if his thin neighbors saw this Very full package In front of his very thin doorIn his very thin neighborhood?
Quickly he opened the thin door And grabbed the packageAnd brought it inside
He had trouble finding a place for itIt didn't seem to fit anywhereHe tried his very thin cupboardBut it wouldn't fitHe tried his very thin closetBut it wouldn't fitHe tried his very thin dresser drawerBut it wouldn't fitFinally he put it on the couchIn his very thin living roomIn front of his very thin televisionAnd he sat on the floorAs the full packageTook up the entire spaceOf his very thin couchIn his very thin living room
Every day as he walked by the packageIt seemed even fuller than beforeHe worried in his very thin way With his very thin thoughts
About what to doWhen he could no longerKeep this very full packageA thin secret anymore
He sat on the thin floor staring thinly at the very full package one afternoonAnd something bothered him even more than beforeHe had forgotten how he had gotten it through his very thin doorIn the first place? It seemed to fit okay? Why, he would just take it back outThrough that same thin doorTo the thin dumpster At the thin cornerAnd be done with this fulness!
He picked up the full packageBut try as he mightIt would not fit Through his thin front door!
After a while he sat down on his very thin floorTired and worried in a very thin wayLooking in thin wonderment at the very full packageWhich now would no longer fit on the couchBut sat on the floor
"I must open the full package," he thought"There's no other wayBecause my thoughts are too thin to know what else to do!It will take up all the room here shortlyAnd I will have no room to liveIn my own thin house anymore!"And a very full panic filled his very thin mind!
He approached the full packageWith thin caution and fearWishing there was some other way to seeWhat lay inside Without having to touch it!
Finally he started with the very full bowOn the very full top And pulled it with a very thin tugBut nothing happenedIt didn't unravel as he expectedIn his very thin thoughts
So he pulled harder, much harderMuch harder than thinHe gave it a full tugGrowing stronger and stronger But the package didn't openThe bow didn't budge
At last he stood on the very full package And pulled with all of his mightOn the very full bowUntil it came apart with a very big ripAnd the paper opened up a very thin bit
He put his eye close to the dark openingTo peer insideTo see what layIn such fulnessAnd was very surprisedTo find inside was a very bright lightToo bright to see anything elseAlthough from the outside, it was still a dark thin opening
As he pulled his head awayHe sighed with relief! So that was all there was to fulness! He had nothing to fear! Because his thin world had light too"No big deal!" he said to himself
He left the package on the thin floorAnd went to bed
The next day when he aroseHe found to his surpriseThe package had taken on a somewhat full human formAnd was cooking him a very full breakfast In his thin kitchen that looked much fuller than it Ever had before
He ate the full breakfast And felt very fullBut he had to go to workSo he hurried alongCarefully making sureTo close the door to fullnessWhen he left his Very thin houseIn his very thin neighborhoodIn his very thin cityIn his very thin world
Something made him excitedTo go home that afternoonHe almost couldn't waitTo get home and be With the very full packageHis thoughts felt less thin Than they ever had beforeAll day he had tried to hide them At workBecause he knewThat very full thoughtsHad no place with very thin mindsIn a very thin cityIn a very thin world
He felt very fullFuller than everAs he approached his front doorWhich didn't look nearly as thinAs it had before
He wondered what his neighbors would thinkWhen they saw he had the fullest house In the neighborhood!
He opened the doorAnd found the packageHad prepared him a feastOf choicest foodsAnd extravagant drinks!
He sat down in aweAnd ventured to stareAt his unusual guestWho sat with a smileObserving him quietly
"How do I live with you?"He thought to himselfHow do I hide you from thinness withoutAs they will soon surely knowAnd I will be called to taskBy this thin world I live in!Then an even scarier thoughtRan thinly through his thin mind..."And how do I live without you? Now knowing what I know of fulness?"
The package just looked at him And smiled and said, "Eat up, my thin man!"The thin man looked at the full package with fearAnd said, "But what after that?""After that, then sleep and dream full dreams!" said the full package! You never know what fulness awaits you tomorrow!"
The dreaded monotony of the thin dayFaded awayAs the thin manWho now felt very fullWent to sleepIn his full bedIn his fuller roomUnder the full moonShining through his fuller windowAnd casting its full light on the full package on the floor
When the thin man awoke He realized he didn't have to go to workIt was the weekend, thin as it may beHe jumped out of his full bedRemembering the full packageAnd rushed to the kitchen to see what he would find
The package was on the living room floor The slight rip showing the dark tearHe strode over to it and peered insideAnd the light appeared again Even fuller and brighter than it had beforeAnd he noticed
That nowHe enjoyed looking at this bright lightIt made him feel fullAnd peaceful insideHe wanted to stare at it for hours, for days! But his thinness kept pulling him awayTo his very full breakfast the package had preparedBut he had many things to doAnd the weekend was thin and fleeting and fading awayAnd he would soon be back at work in his thin world
But as he pulled away to do other thingsHe found his thoughts were fuller than beforeAnd he found he couldn't stop thinking about the full package
When he went to work over the following thin daysHe found he no longer fit inWith his thin colleaguesBecause they still thought thin thoughtsAnd talked thin talkAnd lived in a thin worldWhere only thinness would do
So he went home every evening in sadnessBecause he no longer fit in, in this thin worldAnd no longer had such thin thoughtsAnd he had to hide his thoughtsFrom the thin world he lived in and he tried to think thin again
But all day long, he longed to be with the full package
Finally one day, after a long thin dayHe made it home and went straight to his roomHe didn't want to eat a full dinnerAnd ignored his full package companionHis thoughts were too thin To deal with a full conversationHe felt thin threads of exhaustionAnd thought thin thoughts of worry and confusion
The package nodded and smiledKnowing full well When a Thin One had had enough of trying to blendFulness with thinness
The next day the thin manAwoke very earlyAnd realized he must ask the full packageTo help him with his thin plightHow to rid himself of his thin worldWhere he no longer belongedAnd he no longer fit in
The package just smiled and made him breakfast again
The less thin man boarded the thinner train And rode to work
A thin rain was falling And thin dark skies were above
But his world was much fuller And he felt love and lovedSomething he had never felt beforeExcept maybe in a very, very thin waySomething so strangeHe felt overwhelmedHow to hide something so full?He smiled All the way to workAnd home againHe knew something he had not known beforeHe had the full packageIt was insideHis world wasn't thin anymore
The thin people just staredLike they were seeing a ghostThey couldn't understandThey couldn't relateThey just wanted to be rid of himIt was too lateAnd he understoodBut he didn't careIt no longer matteredHow thin they could beOr whether he fit inOr what they would seeHis package was fullIt had been filling himAnd he didn't needTo think thin thoughts anymoreHe could live in a thin worldSurrounded by thinnessAnd be quite fullHis world had unfurledHe was fathoms beyond Where he used to beHe now lived in a world Of fullness and free
