THINK WORKABILITY, NOT DISABILITY
Set up over 100 years ago to provide work for the
blind people of Norwich, Norfolk Industries has a
long history of employing people with disabilities
and supporting people into the workplace.
In 2012 we became part of Independence
Matters, a Community Interest Company that
provides support to vulnerable adults across
Norfolk.
As part of many changes over the years, Norfolk
Industries now employs people with various
disabilities (not just visual impairments). We have
also extended our reach to provide employment
related services to people who are long term
unemployed or have other disadvantages in the
workplace.
Our immediate term strategy remains to provide
a financially sustainable and secure business
which can continue to support disabled and
disadvantaged people, either through direct
employment or services that bring them closer to
finding greater independence through work.

Quality Control
Quality ISO9001 and
HACCP for Non Food
Manufacturing
Quality is, of course, is the
most important aspect of
any product if it is to retain a
place in the market and
gain repeat sales.
Norfolk Industries is an
accredited ISO9001
supplier and drives a
continuous programme to
improve quality.
We also operate to HACCP
for Non Food Manufacturing
principles to provide a
product free from
contamination and safe for
small children to handle
whilst looking after their
small pets.
Packing Services
Norfolk Industries also offers a contract packing service which is proving to be
a real asset to the business for a number of reasons:
• Additional income stream to assist in the viability of the business.
• Alternative form of work which can be broken down into very small elements
making it easier for people who have learning disabilities to manage.
• An alternative to the production line format for people with anxiety and who
wish to work outside the team environment.
We currently pack for M D Thompson Electrical Wholesaler and Orchard Toys
who produce educational toys, but have also wrapped Christmas presents for
grottos and would of course consider other types of packing work too!
You can be assured of a quality job as this is a good example of playing to
peoples strengths and accuracy.
Our staff
As a Community Interest Company, our most important asset is
our staff. We have a small number of core staff, at least 50% of
which have disabilities, but we also support up to another 30
people per year who may have various barriers to work, through a
programme of work placements.
Customers purchasing from us can be assured that they are
directly contributing towards the employment of people with
significant barriers to work, who may find it difficult to sustain
alternative employment, particularly in today’s employment market.
Norfolk Industries would enjoy the opportunity of supplying product
or services to you, and we encourage businesses to utilise the
positive publicity which can come from a relationship with a
Community Interest Company. In fact, we are prepared to get
involved in marketing which could assist in improving sales for
your business through the use of Corporate Responsibility aims.
Services to the
local community
As a Community Interest Company it is
important that we continue to develop
services that support people in our local
community.
Through ESF funding we have set up
and develop a programme, EVOLVE,
that brings in people from rural areas
and provides them with a range of
development and training opportunities
designed to move them closer to
employment.
We offer an EVOLVE work placement
at Norfolk Industries along with a travel
subsidy, if required.
EVOLVE includes Gateway Assured
Accredited Learning designed to
engage people who do not meet the
threshold for Adult Education.
