Press all seams as you go. !All fabrics used are from Frond Design Studios collections. Materials Focal fabric panel – Think Outside the Vase - 2 running panels (1-1/3 yards) Plaster of Paris – Weeds (dark green) – ¼ yard Plaster of Paris – Open Rose (dark red) – 1/8 yard Plaster of Paris – Nasturtium (red-orange) – 1/8 yard Plaster of Paris – Terra Cotta (yellow-orange) – 1/8 yard Plaster of Paris – Happy (golden yellow) – 1/8 yard Plaster of Paris – Hyacinth (lavender) – 1/8 yard Plaster of Paris – Petunia (purple) – 1/8 yard Plaster of Paris – Tuscany (orange) - binding - ½ yard Sulky Soft-N-Sheer Extra – 23” x 42” Backing – 1-1/2 yards !Threads Sulky 40 wt. PolyLite in Tawny Tan !Cutting Instructions • Think Outside the Vase – referring to the cover photo or the quilt layout diagram at the end

of the pattern, cut a focal panel 24” x wof”. • dark green - cut (2) strips 3” x wof. Subcut (8) 3” x 5-1/2” and (2) 3” x 3”. • dark red - cut (1) strip 3” x wof. Subcut (6) 3” x 5-1/2” and (2) 3” x 3” • red-orange - cut (1) strip 3” x wof. Subcut (6) 3” x 5-1/2” and (2) 3” x 3” • yellow-orange - cut (1) strip 3” x wof. Subcut (6) 3” x 5-1/2” and (2) 3” x 3” • golden yellow - cut (1) strips 3” x wof. Subcut (6) 3” x 5-1/2” and (2) 3” x 3” • Remaining focal fabric - cut (7) 3” x 5-1/2”. Cut (3) 3” x 3”. (Note: Refer to the photograph

of the quilt for approximate color placement as you cut these). • orange cut (5) strips 2-1/2” x wof (binding) • lavender – cut (2) strips ¾” x wof • purple – cut (2) strips ¾” x wof !

!!Quilt Assembly !Focal Panel

! ! Bottom Border !! !!Side Border

1. Stabilize the panel with Sulky Soft-n-Sheer Extra. Piece as necessary, butting the edges next to each other or overlapping very slightly.

2. Lightly thread paint the interiors areas of the flowers. 3. Trim the panel to 23” x 40-1/2”

1. Select 3 x 3” squares – (1) each of golden yellow, yellow-orange, orange-red, dark red, focal fabric and dark green.

2. Select 3” x 5-1/2” rectangles – (1 each of yellow-orange, orange-red, dark red and focal fabric. Lay the fabrics out in the order shown and stitch them together.

! !!Put It Together 1. Sew the bottom border to the stabilized and thread-painted focal panel. 2. Sew the side border to the focal panel/bottom border unit. 3. Layer the quilt top, batting & backing. 4. Stitch-in-a-ditch the long rows of the side border and the rows of the bottom border

to stabilize using Sulky Premier Invisible Monofilament. 5. Free-motion serpentine cross hatch in pieced borders. 6. Quilt around all design elements (flowers & vase) on focal panel using matching

thread or invisible thread. 7. Quilt the background of the focal panel. !Applique 1. The remaining Think Outside the Vase fabric has been used for the design

elements on the side border. 2. Determine roughly which elements you want to use and back them with fusible web

(We used Steam a Seam Lite). Follow manufacturer’s instructions. 3. Cut out the flower elements and fuse in place. 4. Stitch the flower elements down. If edge threads of the applique show white, use a

sharpie or a Pigma Micron to color them to match surrounding areas. !Almost Done… Flange borders & Binding 1. Select the (2) ¾” lavender strips and sew them together end-to-end diagonally. Fold in half

lengthwise and press. Cut into (2) lengths, one the length of the top of the quilt and one the length of the left side. Lay them on the quilt, raw edges even. Baste.

1. Using the remaining 3” squares and 3” x 5-1/2” rectangles, lay them out as shown and stitch them together into (5) rows.

2. Stitch the (5) rows together to complete the side border.

2. Select the (2) ¾” purple strips and sew them together end-to-end diagonally. Fold in half lengthwise and press. Cut into (2) lengths, one the length of the bottom of the quilt and one the length of the right side. Lay them on the quilt, raw edges even. Baste.

3. Use the 2-1/2” orange strips to bind the quilt. !
