The blood that has been shed
in the name of God could fill
oceans. Yet, man still clings
to the idea of an all knowing
all loving and all seeing spir-itual entity. Why, in the face
of all that has been wrought
in faiths name, is this the
case?
Religion is not about what
man has portrayed it to be. It
is mans acknowledgement
that he/she is not alone. That
death is not the end. Mans
perpetual fear of non-
existence, just is one of thecentral driving forces, for the
staying power of religion.
Another is the ability of reli-
gious principles to guide soci-
ety when things seem as
though they are lost.
Since man was hiding in
caves he has looked to the
heavens and thought of some-
thing greater than him/her
self. There has been an in-stinctual drive toward wor-
ship of a deity, or idol. It has
been ingrained in our society
and in our psyche. There has
been a debate between sci-
ence and religion for as long
as man has examined his sur-
roundings and the first criti-
cal thought was expressed.
The age old question of Why
are we hear? has been pon-
dered and mulled over for
generations, and yet with all
the advancements of humani-
ty and thousands of years of
evolution, the answer still
eludes us. Sure there are
philosophical assumptions,
but nothing in the way of
concrete evidence. Through-
out history there are innu-
merable examples of the abil-
ity of religion to divide and
isolate certain segments of
the population. There have
been religious implications in
almost every war ever fought.
Every once in awhile we like
to keep readers aware of the
current situation regarding
laws and policies that effect
us all by restricting or out-
right denies us of our liberty.
In todays political climate
there is more and instances of
laws being signed into exist-
ence through what are
known as Signing State-
ments
This is when the President of
the United States makes a
proclamation that changes or
modifies a law. With out ever
having to involve congress or
the people, any law that the
President wants to change, he
can with the force of office. In
several cases this has proven
to be at the loss of our liberty
as citizens. Obama promised
he would never use them. He
has signed 56 Statements.

Although religion can be-
come an obsession to those
that are desperate for anoutside force to somehow
magically give them material
goods, or fix their broken
lives. In most cases it merely
provides a source of comfort
and tranquility sorely need-
ed in all of our lives. It is
when we look to God to
take away our short com-
ings that we end up disap-
pointed and confused.
When we realize that after
faithful prayer and adher-
ence to the principles of ourchosen faith, that we are
still left with the very same
person we started with.
There is a very good reason
for that. God, it seems, does
not fix people. Nor does
he/she/it make us rich or
good looking. He doesnt
augment our character or
make us popular. I have
never seen anyone who be-
came a better person do it
through prayer alone. Faith
can do wonderful things forsome people. It allows them
to compartmentalize their
life and gain some measure
of peace.
That measure is why, In my
opinion that we do still re-
quire the spiritual aspect of
our lives. Is that spirit nec-
essarily embodied in reli-

the reason most parents

now been shown that it may
also be part of the reason we
react so strongly, to acts of
kindness. Also why we re-
member them so vividly. Dr.Simminlin fitted the partici-
pants in the study with a
portable neural monitoring
device and let them go about
their day. They were in-
structed to go out of their
way to commit as many kind
acts as possible. After study-
ing the data Dr. Simminlin
submitted a conclusion that
aside from the psychological
benefits, their was a markedincrease in key elements that
keep the brain and the body

In a study done at the Uni-
versity of Delaware by a Dr.
Alouhe Simminilan it has
been shown that partici-
pants, while committing an
act of kindness, had in-
creased serotonin levels in
their brain. As well as anincrease in activity in the
Amygdala portion of the
brain. This part of the brain

people every week are either brought
in by Ambulance, or dropped off at
the ER entrance. The staff has been
known to find overdose victims
unconscious on the bench out front
of the ER entrance. It is extremely
dangerous to leave someone that is
overdosing on opiates at the front
entrance because we dont have a lineof sight out there. They could end up
being there for as long as an hour
with no medical attention, and in
those cases time is everything. The
quicker we can get the patient into
the emergency room to be treated the
better. Says; a long time nurse prac-
titioner.
Despite recent residential raids by
the Jefferson Metropolitan Drug Task
Force, there has been a rise in Emer-
gency Room admissions of Heroin
and/or Opiate overdoses. In a study
done by the National Institute of
Drug Abuse, The number of known
drug addicts in Watertown has risen
from 10.5% in 1998 to 13% in 2009.(thats 13% of a population that is
roughly 30,000/ or 3900 addicts in
Watertown. But that only takes into
account those that are known. If you
include the users that not known the
number is much higher)

Anywhere from 60 to 100 people will end up
in the emergency room at Samaritan Medical
Center in Watertown NY, for overdoses on
opiates.
Note from the Editor
In researching some of the stories this week, Iunfortunately was confronted with a lot of
opposition. I made a lot of phone calls, did a
lot of digging and was able to come up with the
material that I needed. However, there are
certain professional persons (that I wont
name, right now anyway.) that intentionally
withheld public information. For what reason,
is beyond me. Never the less, the information
was found and is now ready for your perusal.
Thank you once again for all your support
