Vacation Bible School Starts

Tomorrow!

It’s finally here! After the months of planning and preparation, Vacation Bible School will begin to-morrow, Monday, July 8th, at 9am! And what a fun-filled week it promises to be!

Four lively and enthusiastic counselors from Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp will lead the kids through songs and activities, based on this year’s camp theme of “Blessed to be a Blessing.” Please see page 7 for a peek at who the counselors are, and where they come from.

The counselors are a major part of the fun and success of Vacation Bible School, but without the willing and wholehearted participation of the congregation, it just wouldn’t happen. It may take a village to raise a child, but it truly takes a congregation to run Vacation Bible School!

Thanks go out to everyone who has already donated supplies and materials to VBS. The congregation of St. Philip is always so gener-ous. If you haven’t yet donated anything, you still have time. Simply check the “Supplies Needed” list on the VBS table in the narthex, and then bring your donation to the church tomorrow. Thank you!

A really BIG thank you to all who have volunteered to help; especially our young tweens and teens! Your help is so appreciated! (And if you know anyone else who is interested in helping, we can never have too many helping hands!)

Thanks also go out to co-coordinators Kyle Pitts and Angela Seep. Since last year they have been working on doing what it took to make this year’s program a success. Please be sure to thank them for all their hard work. Questions? Contact Kyle at [email protected]; email Angela at [email protected].

On Thursday evening at 7pm, everyone needs to come to church to see and hear the kids and staff as they showcase all that they have done through the week. It’s a guaranteed “make you smile and tap your toes” experience! Mark your calendars!

Worship Notes - July 7, 2013

INTRODUCTION God is the source of our nourishment. Our Lord’s

invitation to "take and eat ... take and drink" is a

repeated one. In the holy eucharist, in the word read

and proclaimed, in the assembly of the people of

God, the dominion of God has come near. Rejoice!

Your name is written in heaven.

FIRST READING: Isaiah 66:10-14 Those who returned from the exile found that the

hopes for the glorious restoration of Judah were not

completely fulfilled. For these disappointed people,

the prophet envisions salvation in the image of a

nursing woman. Mother Jerusalem and a mothering

God remind the community how they are sustained

and supported.

SECOND READING: Galatians 6: [1-6] 7-16 In the close of his letter to the Galatians, Paul en-

courages them to live as people made right with

God through faith in Jesus Christ. Here Paul offers

practical advice about how believers exercise com-

mon concern for one other in "the family of faith."

GOSPEL: Luke 10:1-11, 16-20 Jesus commissions harvesters and laborers to go

where he would go and do what he would do. Risk-

ing hardship and danger in exchange for the experi-

ence of great joy, they offer peace and healing as

signs that the reign of God is near.

CALL TO WORSHIP

*CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS

Please stand as you are able and face the

baptismal font at the rear of the sanctuary.

All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked

at baptism, as the minister begins.

P: Blessed be the holy Trinity, † one God, abounding in steadfast love toward us, healing the sick and raising the dead, showering us with every good gift. C: Amen.

P: Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

Silence is kept for reflection.

P: Just and gracious God, C: we come to you for healing and life. Our sins hurt others and diminish us; we con-fess them to you. Our lives bear the scars of sin; we bring these also to you. Show us your mercy O God. Bind up our wounds, forgive us our sins, and free us to love, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

P: The apostle Paul assures us: “When were dead in our trespasses, God made us alive to-gether with Christ, nailing the record of our sins to the cross.” Jesus says to you, † “Your sins are forgiven.” Be at peace, and tell everyone how much God has done for you. C: Amen.

WORSHIP

July Healing Service

On July 13/14 St. Philip will have its second healing service of the summer, “Healing of Creation.” The Worship Styles & Formats Team (WSF) will be creating a garden display in the sanctuary and are looking for donations of pot-ted plants. They are also looking for a small fountain, perhaps a bird in a cage, a beta fish, or a gecko in a terrarium. If you would be will-ing to share your beautiful patio plants or your “contained” pets for our services that weekend, please contact Nancy Beyer (303.841.9975) by Sunday, June 30, or Jim Keller after the 30th ([email protected] or 720.891.8760), but no later than July 12th. And by all means, please mark your calendar for this special wor-ship experience that will be offered at all three services the weekend of July 13/14.

GOLF TOURNAMENT

Gearing Up and Getting Ready

Our 2nd Annual Golf Tournament and Silent Auction is scheduled for Saturday, Sep-tember 21st, and we are gearing up and getting ready!

The proceeds from the event will pay for our new exterior sign, which will be placed on the property so it can be viewed by both eastbound and westbound traffic on Ken Caryl. The sign, which will be LED, will allow us to more effectively reach out to our community, and tell them of all the events happening here at St. Philip.

The tournament informational brochure is available at the Welcome Center kiosk. Be sure to pick one up and start working on developing your foursome! Lunch is provided as part of the golf registration fee. Monetary sponsorships are also available for each of the golf holes, as well as each golf cart. Please consider being a sponsor.

The silent auction will be greatly enhanced and expanded this year. Items will be set up and bidding will begin on Rally Sunday, September 8th. You will have the 8th and the following Sunday to consider and bid on items before the tournament. On the 21st, all items will be taken over to Raccoon Creek so the golfers can bid on them. But that’s not the end! After the tournament, auction items will be once more brought to the church, and you will have one last chance to get in your winning bid before the auction closes at noon on Sunday, September 22nd. You do not have to be present to win. Winners will be notified via email on Monday, September 23, and prizes may be claimed at the church office.

If you have any items you wish to donate for the silent auction, please contact Linda Goodnough. Hand-made or one of a kind items are always popular and most wel-come. Contact Linda Goodnough in the church office at [email protected] or call 303.979.4491 for more information. See you in September…!

You won’t want to miss this opportunity! Set aside this time for your spiritual growth. Sign up in the narthex at the Adult Education table or through the church’s website, www.stphilip-co.org.

Please note: The books are available for pur-chase for $5 in the church office.

COMMUNITY CARE

Sign Up Now for Family Promise!

Sign up now for the next Family Promise rota-tion, July 21-28. The sign-up sheets are avail-able at the Family Promise table in the narthex.

During the week of July 21-28, our Family Promise team will provide food, transportation, and shelter for several homeless families from the Denver area. Please consider joining our team and helping out a family that needs a little help getting through a difficult time. We are al-ways looking for new team members!

For more information, please contact team cap-tain Bob Delong at 303.973.3996.

Blood Drive Coming in September

On Friday, September 13, the Children's Hospi-tal blood mobile will visit St. Philip with a goal of collecting 32 pints of whole blood for their young patients. Remember that a donor is eligi-ble when at least 56 days have lapsed since her/his last whole blood donation, which allows time for the donor’s blood supply to be replen-ished.

That means that July 19 is a critical date if you wish to donate on September 13. Sign-ups for the St. Philip blood drive will begin soon. Stay well, save your blood, and don’t schedule your vacation to malaria-infested destinations until AFTER September 13!

ReStore Needs Volunteers

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore (7890 W. Quincy Ave.) needs volunteers to help with customer service and with the Metals Recycling Program.

Habitat for Humanity works through God and with people from all walks of life to build homes, community and hope. Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring the mission is fulfilled.

For more information email Alice Goble at [email protected], or call her at 303.596.5289.

Lutheran World Relief is offering a wonderful opportunity for you to double your giving dol-lars. If you donate to Lutheran World Relief be-tween now and August 31, 2013, your gift will be doubled up to $171,000. LWR helps people around the world by supporting farmers and agriculture, responding to emergencies and disasters, enhancing water access and quality, and improving health and livelihood. Recently, in San Luis, Nicaragua, LWR built a new well and rehabilitated seven other wells so that peo-ple living there can now have clean drinking water and water for household gardens. There are three ways to donate: by mail to Lutheran World Relief at PO Box 17061, Baltimore, MD 21297-1061; by telephone, 1.800.597.5972; or by placing your donation in the offering plate with a designation that it is for Lutheran World Relief. Make your donation today, and your gift will be doubled!!
