SECTOR II A

THESIS PROPOSAL

AS AN INTERIOR DESIGNING STUDENT OF INIFD, I HAVE TAKEN UP ARENOVATION PROJECT OF THE PLAYWAY ‘SANJIVNI’ LACATED IN SECTOR11A, CHANDIGARH. IT IS A DOUBLE-STUREYED BUILDING-GROUND FLOOR IS THE PLAYWAY, FIRST FLOOR BEING BEING THE OWER’SRESIDECE. IT IS A BUILDING OF 500sq.ft. OUT OF WHICH, 60% IS THE COVEREDAREA.

VALIDITY

THE PLAYWAY ‘SANJIVNI’ IS LOCATED IN SECTOR 11 OF CHANDIGARH. ITCOVERS AN AREA OF 500sq.ft. OUT OF THIS TOTAL AREA, 60% IS COVERED. OR40% IS THE GREEN BELT. THE LOCATION IS VERY APT AS THIS SECTOR ISCONSIDERED AS ONE OF THE BEST FOR RESIDENTIAL PURPOSE. HENCE, ISACCESSIBLE TO NO. OF FAMILIES.

HOW DID PLAYWAYS COME INTO EXISTENCE?

PLAY AS A WAY OF LIFE !

(THE HISTORY)

There are many ways of quibbling in a discussion of play as there are in a discussion ofthe New Deal. We soon come to a definition of terms in either type of discussion andthe dictionary does not help very much. Each of us has a personal understanding ofthe meaning of terms and only reluctance are we willing to agree that there may besomething to the other point of view.

One popular conception of play is that it is frivolous, and if that is your notion youmay find ample support in the dictionary. For instance, one definition reads: "totreat, practise, or deal with by way of amusement, sportive imitation, orrepresentation, or without serious purpose; to trifle with; to pretend to engage in; tomake believe." If you are convinced that play is engaged in without serious purposethen a play-way of life that might be characterized as drifting.

Most good citizens believe that life is a serious proposition and certainly there is littleto lead us to think that it is growing much easier for large proportions of population.Early in our history it was decreed that those who do not work cannot eat. And such aprinciple seems to have been reasonably adequate until recent times. But more of thislater.

The first argument against play in schools runs as follows: Since life is a seriousproposition, we should proceed to make of school a serious proposition so that pupilsmay be prepared for tha hardships they are certain to encounter. If we are to preparefor serious living in a school that takes itself seriously, then surely there is little placefor trifling play in its program.

ONE SIDE, AND FEW SWINGS

ON THE OTHER, IS PLEASING.

WAITING

COMFORTABLE CUSHIONED CANE

CHAIRS ARE APPROPRIATELY

PLACED IN THE WAITING.

ALSO, THE BULLETIN BOARD IS A

WAY OF KEEPING THE VISITORSUPDATED.

PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE

RIGHT NEXT TO THE RECEPTION AREA, IS THE

PRINCIPAL’S ROOM WHICH IS VERY COMPACT.

HENCE, IT IS TOTALLY ACCESSIBLE FOR THE

PARENTS.

INTERIORS

BRIGHT AND EYE-CATCHING

COLOURS ARE MADE USE OF.

THIS ENCOURAGES THE

TINY-TOTS TO COME BACK

EVERYDAY.

CEILING

P.O.P. DESIGN ON THE

CEILINGS ADDS TO THE

OVERALL DÉCOR OF

VARIOUS AREAS.

CREATIVE - INFORMATIVE

THESE INNOVATIVELY CREATED

POSTERS, OTHER THAN BRIGHTENING UP THE

ROOM, ARE ALSO VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE.

FLOORING

THE FLOWERY, CURVED AND GEOMETRIC MOSAIC

FLOOR PATTERNS ADD-UP TO THE AESTHETIC ELEMENT.

ALSO THEY RETAIN THE INTEREST OF THE PERSON-

WALKING-BY.

FURNITURE

DESIGNED IN THE SHAPES OFFRUITS (PEAR, APPLE) AND OTHERGEOMETRICAL FIGURES, THISWOODEN FURNITURE ACTS AS ANALL TIME FASCINATION FOR THEKIDS.

ALL THE CLASSROOMS ARE PROPERLY

LIT, MAINLY USING THE BASIC TUBE-

LIGHTS.

NEATLY KEPT

THE CLASSROOMS AERE

QUITE WELL MAINTAINED.

WHEN NOT IN USE, THE

FURNITURE IS NEATLY

PLACED ON THE

SIDES, WHICH PROVIDES A

BETTER AND AN EASIER WAY

OF CLEANING AT THE SAME

TIME.

STORAGE

STORAGE, IN SUCH AREAS, IS A BIG NECESSITY IN

ORDER TO KEEP THE TOYS AND VARIOUS OTHER

THINGS FOR THE KIDS. HERE, IT IS VERY EFFICIENTLY

PROVIDED IN EACH ROOM, HENCE AVOIDING ANY KIND

OF MESS.

VENTILATION

CONTINUOUS CROSSING BETWEEN THE

INSIDE AND THE OUTSIDE AIR IS ANOTHER

VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE, AND IT

SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED AT ANY COST. IT

IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF BY PROVIDING

VENTILATORS, WINDOWS AT DIFFERENT

LEVELS.

WALL TREATMENTS

SELECTED WALLS ARE PAINTED IN A DARKER

COLOUR THAN THE OTHERS. THIS AVOIDS

MONOTONY FROM BEING CREATED.

ALSO, THERE ARE CAVITIES IN THE WALLS, IN

WHICH SPECIAL LIGHTS HAVE BEEN PUT.

ACCOUNTANT’S CABIN

UTILISING THE SPACE, THIS CABIN IS LOCATED JUST

NEXT TO THE STAIRCASE. IT IS A COMPACT

ONE, BUT COMPRISING ALL THE BASIC NECESSITIES

– A PC, PRINTER, STORAGE, DUSTBIN, TELEPHONE

ETC.

PANTRY

A COMPACT PANTRY, WELL

VENTILATED, WELL EQUIPPED, IT HAS A

WATER PURIFIER AS WELL AND A

SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF STORAGE.

RESTROOMS

CLEANLINESS IS ONE OF THE MOST

STRIKING FEATURE OF THIS AREA. TO

MAINTAIN IT, IT IS CLEANED AT

REGULAR INTERVALS.

STAIRRCASE

THE BRIGHT MOSAIC DESIGN ON

THE RISER GIVES A GOOD

APPEARANCE. AND THE

IRREGULARLY RUNNING RAILING

ALSO ADDS UP TO THE

AESTHETIC ELEMENT.

WHILE CROSSING THE

STAIRS, A PERSON

CAN ALSO HAVE A

VIEW OF THE ENTIRE

SCHOOL BUILDING.

SKYLIGHT

A SOURCE OF NATURAL LIGHT ENTERING THE

BUILDING, SKYLIGHT IS A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE AND

ECONOMICAL WAY OF GETTING THE AVAILABILITY

OF REDUCING THE NEED OF ARTIFICIAL LIGHT.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS

PRINCIPAL’S ROOM- WHICH GIVES FIRST

IMPRESSION TO THE VISITORS- IS BADLY KEPT, AND

IS IN A MESSY CONDITION. IT PROBABLY NEEDS TO

BE MORE SPACIOUS AND MORE STORAGE NEEDS TO

BE PROVIDED.

THE DRINKING WATER AREA, WHICH SHOULD BE THE

CLEANEST (CONSIDERING THE HEALTH AND HYGEINE

OF CHILDREN), IS IN A WORN-OUT CONDITION.

HENCE, IT NEEDS TO BE CHECKED.

THE WAITING AREA HAS THE KIND

OF FURNITURE WHICH DOES NOT

REALLY COMPLEMENT THE

OVERALL DÉCOR OF THE

PLAYSCHOOL.

FIRSTB STEPS – AN EFFICIENTLY DESIGNED AND WELLEQUIPPED PLAY SCHOOL FOR INITIAL YEARS OF TODAY’SKIDS – IS SITUATED IN SECTOR 26, CHANDIGARH. IT LIES INA HIGHLY APPROACHABLE AREA OF THIS COMMERCIALSECTOR OF THE CITY. IT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL INBUILDING A STRONG REPUTATION OVER THE PAST SIXYEARS, AS THE FACLTY HERE INCULCATES IN THE CHILDRENTHE MOST SOUGHT AFTER MORAL VALUES.

LANDSCAPE

THE GLASS ON A WALL, VITRIFIED TILES’ FLOORING, AND ANATTACHED WASHROOM.

INFANTS

THIS ROOM EXCLUSIVELY DESIGNED FOR THE INFANTS HAS

ESPECIALLY MADE FURNITURE TO PROVIDE THEM WITH EASE AND COMFORT.

DAYCARE

FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF THEIR PARENTS, THE KIDS AREEVEN MADE TO SLEEP IN THE SCHOOL ITSELF. THE ROOM HASA BRIGHT CEILING, DIM LIGHTING AND VITRIFIED-TILES’FLOORING AND SOFT COMFORTABLE BEDS.

GYM

THE ANTHROPOMETRICALLY CREATED WORKOUT EQUIPMENTSARE APPROPRIATELY PLACED, AND ARE VERY COLOURFUL ANDFASCINATING FOR THE KIDS.

THE CEILINGS ARE KEPT SIMPLE (i.e. NO P.O.P. OR GYPSUMWORK). IN CERTAIN ROOMS, IT IS PAINTED IN A BRIGHTCOLOUR.

FURNITURE

BEAUTIFUL AND COLOUR FUL TABLES AND CHAIRS

HAVE BEEN PLACED IN THE CLASSROOMS

TABLES IN GEOMETRICAL AND FLOWERY SHAPES

FASCINATE THE STUDENTS.
