CHAPTER 1
The Problem and its Background
Introduction
A nightclub also known as a discothèque, dance clubs, or simply a club or disco is
an entertainment venue which usually operates late into the night. A nightclub is
generally distinguished from bars, pubs or taverns by the inclusion of a dance floor and
a DJ booth, where a DJ plays recorded music.
Night clubs are primarily made to be a safe venue for people to come in and enjoy
themselves together with their loved ones. Many young people find themselves in much
stress after a busy week and they decide to attend night clubs so as to release themselves
from the stress. Due to this, night clubs in one way or the other becomes a stress releasing
tool for most young people and that becomes a great advantage. Night clubs can either be
used by the family members to celebrate an event or have fun with father, mother and
children. What an awesome thought but most student go to the night clubs with the aim
of cerebrating well but when they enter in the club, they just find themselves imitating
what others are doing regardless of whether it is wrong or bad. We all know, the night
club is a place which causes the occurrence of social problems in society. There is a lot of
the negative impact if the students involved in the clubbing. The students will become
lazy to do their task either of group or individual assignments and as a result many
students doesn’t finished their task and they retained their focus during learning lessons,
especially if the class started early in the morning. Over time their performance declined
due to the problems of night club. This can be seen through the examination results on
6
the skills and how many subjects that they failed. As the effect, they will ashamed of
themselves and did not dare to consult with their parents or guardian. Hence we must
inculcate a positive attitude or values of the pure to ensure students are not involved in
the social problems especially in nightclubs.
Statement of the Problem
This study was conducted to determine the influence of nightclubbing to the ICCT
Students, Academic Year 2014-2015. It sought to answer the following questions:
1. What is the preferred club of the ICCT Students of Cainta, Rizal?
2. Why do students go to night clubs?
3. What are the long-term effects of going to night clubs in the study and life of
ICCT Students, Academic Year 2014-2015?
Significance of the Study
This study is beneficial to the following:
1. The students. The study would help them know the long-term effects of going to
night club and how it will affect their studies and future lives.
2. The owners of the night clubs. This study would provide them insights how their
business affects the life and studies of the students. Also this study will help them
7
become more responsible to secure that no minor or students are allowed to enter
night clubs.
3. The parents. This study will make the parents know how they can discipline their
children and how good relationship of the family will avoid the failure of
students.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
This research used descriptive methods in determining the influence of
nightclubbing to the ICCT Students of the ICCT College Cainta, Rizal, Academic Year
2014-2015. It was narrowed down to the student’s preferred clubs, the reason why they
go to night clubs and the long-term effects of nightclubbing in their studies and in their
lives. The gathering of data and other needed information was done in the ICCT College,
Cainta, Rizal.
Definition of Terms
To facilitate better understanding of the study, the following terms are
operationally defined:
Taverns – is a place of business where people gather to drink alcoholic
beverages and be served food, and in most cases, where travelers receive lodging.
Pubs - formally public house, is a drinking establishment in the culture
of Britain, Ireland, Australia, Canada, New England, South Africa and New
8
Zealand. In many places, especially in villages, a pub can be the focal point of the
community.
Occurrence – something that happens or the fact of happening or occurring
Imitating - to do the same thing or to copy

Review of Related Literature / Studies
Foreign Literature
John Zaremba (1997) stated that nightclub is an image of a swanky ballroom
with an orchestra, perhaps a torch singer, and wealthy clientele in tuxedos and evening
gowns. In more modern times, however, the term is applied broadly to any place people
go to drink and be entertained, be it a dance club, a rock music venue, a beach bar or a
dueling-piano saloon. He also categorized nightclub into four types. These are: 1. Dance
club, a place for men and women to get together, drink, and dance to a
buffet of music including hip-hop, R&B, techno, and rock mash-ups (in
which classic rock songs are paired with modern grooves). 2. Live
Music Venue, contain a bar, a floor and a stage with a professional
sound system and it is book exclusively local talent, and some book
mainly national acts. 3. Sports-Theme Nightclub, combine drinking
and music with other recreational activities such as bowling, billiards,
and arcade or video games. 4. Comedy bar, which has two major
types; standup clubs and sketch-comedy clubs. Both are commonly
found in major cities but rarely elsewhere. Standup clubs usually
feature a series of comedians performing short sets, then a headliner
who takes the stage for a slightly longer time. Many clubs have two- or
three-drink minimum requirements. Sketch comedy clubs, such as The
Second City, host troupes of actors who put on short plays and
10
improvisational sketches, during which audience members shout out
suggestions that greatly influence the content of the performance.
Erika Duncan Bryant (2003) stated that Nightclubs are a popular destination for
many young people. Protect yourself while having a good time is important, especially in
today's world.
Andrew Kline (2003) stated that Nightclubs are a fun way for you and your
friends to spend a night out. Before you head out, however, it is a good idea to be
knowledgeable about standard nightclub regulations. These are: age requirements, proof
of I.D., crowd control, dress code and rule reinforcement.
R.L. Cultrona (2007) stated that nightclub is a great way to spend
an evening. One of the most popular activities for a night out is going
to a nightclub. At nightclubs, you can dance, meet people, have a drink
and relax. Most of the time, nightclubs are pretty easygoing places.
However, just like any culture, nightclubs have rules that dictate their
social norms. Knowing what you can and cannot do is just as important
as choosing what nightclub to visit specially the line, the dance floor
and the bar itself.

Research Methodology
This chapter presents the research design used, the respondents, instrument used,
data gathering method and the statistical treatment of the results of the study.
Research Design
The descriptive method specifically the survey was used to achieve the objectives
of this study. It was a fact-finding study with adequate and accurate interpretation of the
findings. This method sought to describe present conditions which in this study were
nightclub and its implications of the ICCT Colleges Cainta, Rizal students.
Subjects of the Study
The target respondents were composed of one hundred (100) ICCT students. They
were selected through systematic sampling.
Research Instrument
The survey questionnaire was used to elicit the data needed in this study. The
questions answered the different nightclubs and its implication of the ICCT students.
Data Gathering Procedure
12
The data were drawn from the 100 students of different courses of the ICCT
Colleges Cainta, Rizal. Each student was asked to answer a questionnaire.
Statistical Treatment
Individual responses have been recorded in the tally sheet before the data were
put in the table form ready for the statistical treatment. To provide meaningful description
of nightclubs and its implications, percentage distribution was obtained.
The formula for percentage is % = f/N x 100
where: % = percentage
f = frequency
N = total number of frequency
P = f/N x 100

38%, formation/building of network of friends/associates with 31 or 31%,
entails economic implications like allotting a budget for this instead of using it
for more important one with 20 or 20% and development of nightclubbing as
a holistic form of leisure and entertainment with only 11 or 11% of total
respondents.
Conclusions
Based on the finding, the following are drawn.
1. Nowadays, freshmen students are exposed/aware in nightclubbing.
2. ICCT Colleges students are music lover who give interest in the field of music
that they can relate to themselves.

Recommendation
If you went to a night club be with a positive mind. Remember that excessive drinking
may lead to intoxification which cab in turn lead you in acting violently because excessive
drinking in night clubs is one of the most dangerous things you can do. It makes you see other
people like a beast. Be wise and minimize drinking in night club parties. Practice self control and
you will enjoy yourself while having night club parties. Practice peace and love to your friends
while celebrating and you will not encounter any complication or accident that may occur from
fighting dues to excessive drinking.
