For the picking hand, proper holding of the pick and bracing your hand when picking the strings are important concepts to grasp at this stage. For the fretting hand (the hand that goes on the strings on the neck of the guitar), make sure that your hand has some air space between theneck of the guitar and the palm of your fretting hand.
