Introduction TRE thermostatic expansion valves have been designed and developed for soldering into air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. Their hermetic tight design meets environmental demands for today and the future. They can be used in systems ranging in capacity from 28 to 245 kW (8 to 70 TR (R22)).

The TRE design incorporates a hot-pressed brass body with the entire power element, including the capillary tube and bulb, fabricated from stainless steel. The off set inline bimetal solder connections are formed from rolled stainless steel and copper. The valve incorporates a 2-way balanced port orifi ce making it ideal for bifl ow operation.

External superheat adjustment is a standard feature on all TRE valves. For non-adjustable OEM versions, a setting assembly is available for fi eld retrofi t. A strainer is also available as an accessory for mounting in the inlet connection.

TRE valves can be used for all fl uorinated refrigerants, and are available for R22, R410A, R134a, and R407C. Models for other refrigerants can be produced to order.

MOP Function To avoid charge migration when MOP valves are used, the bulb temperature must be lower than the thermostatic element temperature.

Design/Function

Static superheat SS can be adjusted with the setting spindle (5), see fig. 2. The standard superheat setting (SS) is 4K / 7.2°F for valves with MOP and 5K / 9.0°F for valves without MOP. Valves can also be supplied with a fixed setting. For factory non-adjustable valves, an adjustment assembly is available as an optional accessory (6).

The two-way balanced port feature (4) ensures minimal superheat changes when differential pressure varies. This feature makes the valve ideal for biflow operation. The central pressure pin is fitted with a robust seal (3) that ensures maximum tightness for the life of the valve.An inlet filter (7) is available as an accessory.

Sizing Correction for subcooling ∆tsub

The evaporator capacity used must be corrected if subcooling deviates from 4 K (7.2°F). The corrected capacity can be obtained by dividing the evaporator capacity by the correction factor given below.

The corrected evaporator capacity thus becomes 40 : 1.11 = 36 kW / 10.3 TRSince the expansion valve capacity must be equal to or slightly greater than the corrected evaporator capacity of 36 kW / 10.3 TR, a TRE20-12.5X with a table capacity of 37.7 kW / 10.8 TR would be a suitable choice.
