Meet Katie Musisi, Vice President of Development at

Easterseals Central Illinois

How long have you been a member of the AFP Central Illinois Chapter? 3 years.

Why did you join? I transferred my membership from the Chicago Chapter when I moved home to Peoria so that I could plug into the local nonprofit development scene, meet folks, and take advantage of learning opportunities.

What is some of the best career advice you’ve been given? I don’t think anyone has told me this, but I have arrived at the following: on a resume, your career path may zig or zag, but look for those common threads that can weave together a strong narrative about what drives you as a professional. Where your skills, passion and purpose converge, you can find a fulfilling career and your unique professional brand.

What are the words you work by? Probably some combination of: work the plan but be flexible, empower your team to be leaders, always be learning, and celebrate successes big and small.

What do you like to do for fun? I love to cook, work in the garden, and take walks and bike rides with my husband Daniel and kids, Olive and Desmond.

What is something (a fun fact!) that not many people know about you? That Lifetime/Hallmark Holiday movies are like a salve to my holiday-chaos, year-end-campaign-weary soul.

What inspires you? Strong working moms who maintain healthy boundaries!

AFP members aspire to:

Practice their profession with integrity, honesty, truthfulness and adherence to the absolute obligation to safeguard the public trust.

Act according to the highest goals and visions of their organizations, professions, clients and consciences.

Member Benefit Extended: Have You Used Your $40 Credit?

Through September 30, 2021, all AFP members can use a one-time coupon code to

receive $40 off the online learning opportunity of their choice. This includes

upcoming premium webinars, archived webinars or any other online learning session.

Learn more about this member-exclusive benefit.

C. Wilson Schroeder Membership Scholarships

The Central Illinois Chapter firmly believes in the value that Association of Fundraising Professionals membership can bring to a organization and seeks to make membership accessible to all not-for-profit organizations within our service area. To further this aim, we offer scholarships for membership through the C. Wilson Schroeder Membership Scholarship program. We invite applications from fundraisers or executive directors whose organization’s budgets are constrained, but who would benefit from AFP membership. These scholarships pay all or a portion of the membership fees for chosen recipients for two years. A total of four scholarships are awarded annually and priority is given to those applicants who can demonstrate a financial need. The application process is fairly simple. Applications are due October 31.

For complete information, go to Scholarship Information.
