National Service (Amendment) Act came into force on 17 March 1967.

full-time national Service (nS) was introduced in March 1967 to conscript male citizens into military service. Beyond defence, nS was seen to play an important role in nation-building.
Dr goh’s defence strategy was to establish a small force of regulars to command conscripted nSmen. nSmen would be assigned to the reservist forces after their completion of service.
