A Volunteer’s Passion Helps Children at the Elizabeth City EMPOWER After School Program

Elizabeth City, NC – They walk on all fours, like to be touched, and provide an enormous amount of therapy. Thanks to volunteer, Sheron Mosby, children at the EMPOWER After School Program in Elizabeth City have the opportunity to enjoy, Scarlett, a therapy dog.

Sheron led the committee that worked to establish a local chapter of Pet Partners, a non-profit organization, helping people with varying disabilities ranging from children with intellectual disabilities to seniors living with Alzheimer’s. Their handlers and pets are highly trained, patient and caring with every individual they visit.

Not only does Sheron volunteer with Pet Partners and at Easterseals UCP, she encourages others to pursue certification of their therapy pets. All this while raising

two sons with autism who attend the EMPOWER After School Program at Easterseals UCP. Thanks to Trillium Health Resources for sponsoring the EMPOWER programs and supporting children with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout North Carolina.
