2. THESIS STATEMENT: There are many theories of self and concepts of identity, none of which are right or wrong, theories are either supported or not.; it is not up to anyone but you to decide what theory fits your story of self-development best. 3. Trust vs. 4. ERIKSONS 8 STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT: If a child's needs are not met and does not receive love and affection, then you are going to see the child develop not trusting anything or anyone. If at stage one the child doesnt develop trust, none of the other stages can be completed with the self-enhancing virtue. To develop trust and receive the virtue of hope when you are older because you didnt receive the proper care and nurturing. One must understand and accept trust and mistrust to receive virtue of hope! 5. Heinz Kohut Sigmund Freud 6. Kohut argued that therapy has to be centered on the patients needs , in respect to themselves at this moment in time. While psychoanalysis was all based on the unconscious mind and past experiences. 7. Cognitions 8. All these theories and concepts are missing one vital piece of information: genetic component! Not one theory is supported more than another in getting to know yourself, it all depends on the individual and their own personal development through life. An eclectic approach is what I would use for myself: I would use a strengths based, Bio- psycho-social model. I would also consider my morals and values, to get to know myself at this moment in time. Experiences, people I've met that have taught me new lessons, and if I work on personally.
