MARCH 4, 2018 3 RD SUNDAY IN LENT D ear Parishioners, I trust that learning about the Theology of the Body this week, or refreshing our knowledge of it, will prove fruitful for our Lenten reflec- tion. In our age, post-sexual revolu- tion, the human body has lost its spiritual meaning and is considered a mere “mechanical object” which can be interchanged, manipulated, or twisted as we please. St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body brings us a different, biblical vision for our bodies: “The task of every man is the dignity of every woman, and the task of every woman is the dignity of every man.” he wrote. He saw a deep inner dignity of the human body which can help us live out God’s plan for our sexuality! In an age where pornogra- phy is rampant, even among Christian men, where the body is seen as a vehicle for desire, where women are harassed and marriages are broken, we need the hope and joy that JPII’s teaching brings. We can, with God’s help, live lives which are in stark contrast to those in the mainstream culture and media, we can find peace and healing and integrate our physical aspects into a wholesome whole as chaste Christian men and women. I’d like to make you aware of more developments in our parish. I have hired a new Youth Minister/DRE, Thomas Merlo, who will begin work in our parish in May. Thomas comes to us from Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, where he completed three years and a Bachelor Degree in Philosophy, before discerning that God desires him to step away from seminary. I have great hope that he will do well in serving our parish! Also, there is a young lady from University of Michigan, Paige Gibson, a graduate student in Architecture, who has been meeting with me and the previous DRE for some time, in preparation for adult Confirmation. Paige is originally from Texas and found our parish online. She is pre- paring to be married, and desires to be confirmed in the Catholic faith before her wedding next year. We will be confirming Paige at our Easter Vigil Mass on March 31st. Finally, some of you have noticed that Dcn. Jim Thibodeau has not been around lately. Deacon Jim has been thinking and discerning about his ministry for some time. At this time, he wishes to step away from active ministry to pray where and how God desires him to serve next. He will not be returning to our parish. We will miss Dcn. Jim’s robust homilies and his service on the altar. We wish him well! Deacon Jim wanted to pass this on to you: “Thank you Fr. D ear Parishioners,

I trust that learning about the Theology of the Body this week, or refreshing our knowledge of it, will prove fruitful for our Lenten reflec-tion. In our age, post-sexual revolu-tion, the human body has lost its spiritual meaning and is considered a mere “mechanical object” which can be interchanged, manipulated, or twisted as we please. In an age where pornogra-phy is rampant, even among Christian men, where the body is seen as a vehicle for desire, where women are harassed and marriages are broken, we need the hope and joy that JPII’s teaching brings. Thomas comes to

Theology of the Body

What is it- Theology of the

Body is a teaching on what it

means to be fully human —

male and female. Theology of

the Body is St. John Paul II’s

first major teaching project as

pope. It is a grand proposal to

the world of the deepest mean-

ing of life and love made

visible in the body.

What does it say- Through the Bible and Catho-

lic tradition, Theology of the

Body explains that our bodies

reveal the deepest mysteries of

God and humanity. Theology

of the Body offers that God

wants us to know Him through

our humanity: our sexuality,

our relationships, our joys, and

our struggles.

What does it mean- Theology of the Body

proposes a fresh view of God’s

love that leads to deep

awareness of human dignity,

identity, and purpose. This

vision produces wonder,

peace, joy, and

a sense of reverence for

oneself and others.

Our lost and found is overflowing! Stop by the parish hall and claim your items!

Easter Flowers

Mass offered for those named at Easter, flowers are abundant in the Church as a sign of new life and hope.

The white lilies represent the miracle of the Resurrection. Their beauty is a comfort.

There are special envelopes for flowers in your donation-packet. If you put the donation in the name of someone living or dead there is a special Mass by which they may receive the graces from that infinite sacrifice. If you do not have a donation packet with the special envelope, just place at least $10 in an

envelope and mention the name of the person you want remem-bered. The special Mass for the intentions of all these folks will be at the Mass on Sunday, April 8th at 8am. Consider providing for these flowers in the name of a loved one and attending the Mass too, if you can!
