This is particularly manifested in supply chains that include many intermediaries using different norms and quality standards. Such chains are undoubtedly the agri-food supply chains (AFSCs). Achieving sustainability for these chains, regardless of the country in which they are organized, seems to be a priority, which is determined by two issues, i.e. ensuring food security of the country and the production of healthy food and very large and often undervalued environmental impact of this type of production. Scientific research indicates that logistics processes are a huge burden for environmental sustainability. This is confirmed, among others, by the report prepared during the World Economic Forum (2009), which shows that logistic processes generate annually about 2,800 megaton of CO2, which is about 6% of the total CO2 emissions produced by human activities. Other results, research conducted at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, using the method of lifecycle assessment, show that transport processes related to food consumption are responsible for 11% of 8.1 million tons of greenhouse gases generated during the year. The presented facts imply the necessity to reorganize logistics processes in an environmentally friendly way, for example by reducing the number of journeys, planning shorter transport distances, more direct shipping routes, improving packaging quality, transparency in all processes "from farm to fork", as well as better use of existing resources. Theme and background

The strategy of sustainable development, although widely

accepted, during implementation in entire supply chains, still

faces many emerging problems. This is particularly manifested

in supply chains that include many intermediaries using

different norms and quality standards. Such chains are

undoubtedly the agri-food supply chains (AFSCs). Achieving

sustainability for these chains, regardless of the country in

which they are organized, seems to be a priority, which is

determined by two issues, i.e. ensuring food security of the

country and the production of healthy food and very large and

often undervalued environmental impact of this type of

production.

Scientific research indicates that logistics processes are a huge

burden for environmental sustainability. This is confirmed,

among others, by the report prepared during the World

Economic Forum (2009), which shows that logistic processes

generate annually about 2,800 megaton of CO2, which is about

6% of the total CO2 emissions produced by human activities.

Other results, research conducted at Carnegie Mellon University

in the United States, using the method of lifecycle assessment,

show that transport processes related to food consumption are

responsible for 11% of 8.1 million tons of greenhouse gases

generated during the year.

The presented facts imply the necessity to reorganize logistics

processes in an environmentally friendly way, for example by

reducing the number of journeys, planning shorter transport

distances, more direct shipping routes, improving packaging

quality, transparency in all processes "from farm to fork", as

well as better use of existing resources.

Therefore, the integration of the research community with the

business community by presenting the results of scientific

research and practical experience in the logistics of the agri-

food chains is the aim of the Forum.

The Forum will also include IV National Scientific Conference AGROLOGISTYKA.

The official language of the Forum will be English, but also

planned sessions in the Polish language as part of IV

AGROLOGISTYKA.

The conference program includes plenary, thematic and poster

sessions, and additional thematic session during the study visit

to one of the leading companies of agri-food sector in

Wielkopolska Region and in Poland

Topics:

Risk management in the AFSCs - regional and global approach 12. Legal aspects of the functioning of AFSCs 13. Development of the CSR and LSR concepts for the AFSCs 14. Problems, challenges and trends in AFSCs 15. Other issues related to the functioning of the AFSCs
