Hands Across Australia – Students won theStudents from 2KB and 6TM were absolutely thrilled to hear that their Hands Acrossproject had won a special award this afternoon. Both classes were watching the announcementon the live webcast and got a very pleasant surprise to hear that their entry had been picked bythe CEO of GenerationOne to receive an award and prize fcompetition required entrants to create their own music video about ‘closing the gap’ to endinequality between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. Our students did this by usingour Connected Classroom to link with Hume Pcommunities and Aboriginal culture. The CEO of GenerationOne, Mr Tim Gartrell will be visitingour school to personally deliver this fantastic award to our students. You can view our HandsAcross Australia project on the school website.
Selective High Schools ApplicationsApplication is required in November 2011 for parents or carers of Year 5 students who wishtheir children to be considered for placement in Year 7 at a selective high school in 2013.Parents with internet access are requested to apply online. Online application will be availablefrom 24 October to 21 November 2011. Only one week to go in the 2011 SpellathonOur students are having a great time learning their challenge words for the 2011 Spellathon.We are now in the final week for the students to learn their words and find sponsors who willsupport them in this great challenge. We are ahard work next Friday when the students complete the challenge test.
Swim Scheme 2011 – Coming Soon!Students in Years 2-6 will have the opportunity to participate in 'Swim Scheme' in Weeks 9 and10 of Term 4. The Department of Education and Communities School Swimming Scheme is anintensive learn to swim program, which develops water confidence and provides students withbasic skills in water safety and survival. The Scheme is conducted over ten days. Elesson is 45 minutes. The cost of the program will be approximately $65. Permission notes willbe distributed closer to the date.
Congratulations Mrs Taylor Hill & Ms TysonCongratulations to Mrs Taylor Hill (4TH) on her appointment to the role of Principal of KillaraPublic School. Mrs Taylor Hill has done an exceptional job as Assistant Principal of the DEMand we hope to continue sharing ideas across our school communities when she joins KillaraPS in 2012.Congratulations also to Ms Aimee TysonNormanhurst Public School. Ms Tyson has been working as a temporary teacher at the DEMand has proven herself to be committed and caring.

ICAS Maths Results
Of the 161 students who participated in the ICAS Mathematics Test, 6students were awarded High Distinctions, 27 Distinctions, 51 Credits and 77were awarded Participations. Our results were very pleasing with all yeargroups scoring above the mean for all students from NSW and the ACT.
Two of our year 4 students, Cole Finney and Ryan Shi scored full marks inthe test. Congratulations to all students who participated in the test.

To Mimi Chan of 4AT who competed in the Acrobatic Gymnastics 2011National Championships in Geelong, Melbourne. She came second overallfor her efforts. We would like to congratulate her on this amazingachievement! Well done Mimi!!
Nude Food Day
Congratulations to Rehan from 1JP for winning our Nude Food Day poster competition.
Nude Food Day was a wonderful success. Our data collected on the day indicated thatapproximately 62% of students brought lunches that were completely rubbish-free.Congratulations to all parents and contributors!

Fundraiser
One of our parents will be abseiling down the AMP building at Circular Quay on Saturday in
support of this Charity - The David Martin Foundation which aims to give homeless and
disadvantaged children the skills they need to feel good about themselves and what they can

FABStar! Principal’s Awards
FABStar! is an initiative to recognise positive behaviours in the playground.
This week, 7 students have received a Principal’s Award at our K-6 assembly for
consistently demonstrating our school rules of care for and respect yourself, others
and the environment. Students must earn 3 FABStar! slips to receive a Principal’s
Award which is presented at the Monday whole school assembly.
