BUILD SITE Update We made some excellent progress at the Burnaby Build site on Phase 5 in August. Our dedicated volunteers were able to complete the installation of the 1st floor walls, ceiling joists and floor panels for the second floor. Vapour barriers were finished in the basements which allowed us to have concrete poured in all 5 units. Looking ahead we can expect to install the 2nd floor wall panels which were pre-fabricated in the winter, secure the ceiling joists for the 2nd floor and complete the framing in the basements. If all goes well, we will have roofs on our new homes before the colder weather hits the lower mainland. Be sure to join our Facebook Fan Page to stay in touch with the organization, keep up to date on the construction progress and check out latest photos from the build site. Become a fan today and post your own comments, photos or videos from your volunteer experiences. DRINK COFFEE for the Cause If your office is like most, you probably have pounds of fresh coffee and tea delivered to fuel your colleagues every week. What if you could have premium quality coffee and all natural organic and fair trade teas delivered to your office with no delivery fee? Even better, what if approximately 45 percent of every purchase went directly to building affordable homes for local families in need? Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver has partnered up with Blenz e Canadian Coffee Company to provide you with world-class coffees and loose leaf teas at affordable prices while raising money for our cause. To order, just go to blenzcares.com and remember to enter Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver as the affiliated charity of choice at the checkout page. SOCIAL MEDIA Update! We have been working hard over the past couple of months to find new ways to connect with our valued sponsors, donors, volunteers and ReStore customers. We are excited to be able to provide our supporters with regular updates and interesting tidbits of info. We would love for all of you to contribute to the conversation and help spread the word about what we’re doing locally. ATTENTION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KIDS: Help Habitat for Humanity…and Win a Laptop

Do you know children in grades 4, 5 or 6 who want to help a family in need? Now in its third year, Genworth Financial’s hugely successful Meaning of Home writing contest has returned. Genworth will donate $60,000 towards the building of a new Habitat home in the community of the winner’s choice. Let’s make it Vancouver this year!!! Five runner-up entries will receive a $100 gift card to Chapters/Indigo and Genworth will donate $5,000 to the Habitat for Humanity affi liate of the runner up’s choice.

The contest runs from October 5 – November 13. For more information on the contest, submission details, tools and resources around the contest, please visit www.meaningofhome.ca.

BUILDING TEAMS, Building Community

Do you want to see your boss in a hardhat? How about treating your clients to something a little diff erent than a golf tournament? All sponsors of Habitat for Humanity have the opportunity to participate in our popular Corporate Team Build Days in which 12–16 employees or clients can spend a day at our construction site and make a positive, hands-on contribution to the community. Th e team build day includes a private safety briefi ng, coff ee, snacks, a catered lunch, t-shirts and a team photo. We also provide all of the gear your teams will require including hard hats, steel toed boots, tools, rain gear and painting smocks. While we welcome donations of all kinds, sponsorship starts at $5,000. Sponsorship can take the form of a single donation, or employees can use our online tool to collectively fundraise to reach a sponsorship goal. Our popular Corporate Team Build Days fi ll up quickly, so contact Kim Pettersen, Director of Development & Marketing to fi nd out more about scheduling a build day for your organization: 604-681-5618 x 26.

“Thank you for the opportunity to participate in a Habitat Build Day. Our team had a great time and it gave us a chance to interact and get to know each other in a new way outside of the offi ce. Many of our team members are already asking about when we can return and lend a hand again.”Nicole Eich, Westminster Savings Credit Union
