The firft thing to be learnt, is to hold the sticks, which is a principal part in Drum – beating. The left hand Stick which is the moft difficuit, is to be held firm between the Thumb and the upper joint of the fourth Finger.
The lower or right hand Stick, to be griped fnft with the little Finger, and to be held as a Man may ufe a Stick in Fencing &c.
The fecond is to learn to Roll, which is to begin with the left hand beating two ftrong ftrokes, then two with the right, and fo on quickening the Time till the Roll is ciofed.
